I'm finally getting my act together and applying for my Irish Passport, something I've intended to do for a long time. 😀
I was born in England, but qualify for Irish citizenship through descent. I'm considering moving to the Irish Republic after my degree. 🙂

I was wondering, does anyone else on the TMF hold dual nationality? 😛

Not yet but after I'm married I'm applying for dual English / American. It will be good to be able to live where ever we want. It's hard that one of us will always be thousands of miles away from family and friends. On the good side, we will have more chance of us both being able to find good jobs if we can look for work in both countries. Right now I can work here but he isn't allowed to and he can work there but I'm not allowed to. It's a bit of a battle but I'm sure we will win it in the end.

When i lived in Austin,i knew a young lady from England who had married an American. The INS came to their home one day, took them to seperate rooms, and asked all kinds of questions such as what kind of razor does your husband use, what brand of deordent, etc, and they were asking him questions about her. They went through the closets and bedrooms, looking for evidence that they did not share a bedroom. They though it might be an arranged marrige for her to get American citizenship i guess. If you and Bob do come here,i hope you will not have to go through that, but it does or at least did happen.

I suspect that it still does happen because I know that happens in England too. I'd better move a few things out of the house before we let them come lol. I don't know what they might think of the toys we have

Perhaps your toys might help to convince them you two are really togeather.😉

You all need to move here, its not quite that bad,at least not yet....

As it so happens, I have dual-citizenship. I was born in Inverness, Scotland to a Scottish father and an American mother. So, I'm an American citizen and a Subject of Her Majesty the Queen. :triangle:

My father is from Ireland and I'll be doing the same sometime next year when I plan to visit the rest of my family.

Way cool!

That's cool 🙂 . My parents are both Irish (although my mother is like myself, Born in England to Irish parents. My maternal grandparents went back over to Ireland not long after she was born).

I've often visited my family, who are scattered all over Northern Ireland. People are often amazed at quite how many relatives I have. 66 First cousins at the last count. 😛

I'm considering moving to Ireland because England is currently putting too many people through University. This means that there is more Graduates than Graduate jobs. Over in Ireland, being sparsely populated in comparison, there is a surplus of graduate level jobs (at least from what I've heard). I'm doing an Archaeology degree, so I'm going to look into jobs in Heritage management in the Republic. If they are available, then one member of the Irish Diaspora could be going back. 🙂

Best of luck to you Red.When i lived in Houston there was a young lady i knew who lived in Ireland for a year while she was a college student. She loved it there.

Yeah, I've heard the same from my dad. He keeps wanting me to move there and work too.

Doubt I'll do it though.
