E3 is the big Gaming convention held every year in the Los Angeles Convention Center. for all you NON Gamers out there just thought i'd point that out.

anyways so what Game Titles/Gaming Products have you seen on E3 based websites or on tv that your exicted about?

for me i don't really know yet. i've seen E3 reports from tech tv on the screen savers and x-play. But i would play games alot more if i had the Live online function for xbox or the Live online function for my Playstation 2. and i'm not a very big computer gamer although i could be if i had my own Gaming Laptop or Desktop pc😀 !.

Talk about all the e3 you want in this thread!

I'm more interested in the PC games at E3. Specifically, Half Life 2 and Halo 2. First Half Life was great and this sequels graphics alone look incredible. Halo 2 looks like a fun game too.

E3

We were there, but not demo-ing I believe. Our company is setting up for an early beta test with MCI.

http://www.sojdev.com/community/

We sat at GDC with Intel and threw up a plasma screen of our world. It's spherical rather than sharded/tiled, roughly the size of Mars and has a base file of less than 300Kb...pretty radical tech and a breakthrough on the scene that dropped a lot of jaws. The technology behind it was developed by a company called Pandromeda, and represents the same type of compression that mp3s brought to audio, along with all the advantages for gamers of having a small easily managed and stable environment. We're also partnered with Butterfly.net, whose Grid can theoretically hold millions of users simultaneously in a lag free state. This is the purpose of the MCI trial. We're using it as a free beta and hopefully they'll crack the million player mark since they're giving it away the first 6 months or so to stress test Butterflys bandwidth allocation system. I'm not an expert on that side of the project, but apparently they stand to realize savings of millions of dollars in bandwidth if the Grid tests out as advertised. Obviously we want it to be able to support large numbers of players for our own purposes.

Eventually we'll also license to console when the 3rd gens are out in 06 or 07. That model won't be unique by then most likely, but it'll still be interesting to have console and PC players interacting in the same world on a nearly equal level of persistency and options....

Q

im looking forward to playing final fantasy xiii, watching the final fantasy dvd advent children when it comes out and the new phantasy star console game.

i'm looking forward to the Sims 2 coming out in September...it's looking really good

Sonys new psp Handheld gaming device looks pretty cool. i don't know if i'd actually buy one of them but they still look awesome!

To be honest, I thought the first halo game was ok. The combat was fun and so were the vehicles and the weapons were all unique and fun to fire. But the level design was pretty bad. The long library was repititive and boring. Worst part of the game IMO. And they're a few maps that were played twice. Hopefully, the new one won't make that same mistake.

Resident Evil 4.

(won "best game of E3 04" award - and looks awesome)

wow simply amazing Detail and Graphics for Half Life 2. i've been mostly only a sports Gamer. but i'm looking to branch out if you will into other Gaming genres. will Half Life 2 be out on xbox? or is it only pc?

if its only pc then that leaves me out🙁

I think it's only coming out for pc. But the game is really popular, so I wouldn't be surprised if they converted the game to consoles as well. I just wouldn't count on it coming out the same time the PC version comes out.

Half Life 2 - was looking forward to it when the hype machine ramped up a year ago. Now, not so much, mainly it has to be said for trying to use Steam and getting bugger all support from Valve for what was (and can still be) a VERY buggy product. Of course I'll probably still buy the thing, but probably a bit after release when the first set of problems have been fixed.

Doom 3 - I can actually hear my PC sobbing every time I look at screenshots of this game. IF my system will run it, this is the one that's got me drooling. It's got that same kind of "scare the bejesus out of you" vibe that Quake had waaaaaaay back in the day, and id ain't let me down yet...

But it has to be said that looking at the E3 coverage left me a bit, well, cold really. Nothing really new to hook us game players other than ever-more-pretty graphics. This, for me, is the big issue at the moment. I've been playing games since I was... umm, three I believe, and every time a new generation of systems has come along there's been something interesting that you couldn't do before with companies taking big chances to push the boundries. These days though... I don't know, it just feels like a lot of the fun's gone out of the whole scene.

*Shrug* Or maybe I'm just getting old 😀

I don't know, it just feels like a lot of the fun's gone out of the whole scene. why do you feel that way?

The vidoe Game industry is bigger then it ever has been before. its even bigger then the Movie industry. and it makes more money then the movie industry does. and frankly i Love playing video games. i might not be a hard core gamer like some gamers are that go out every month and buy a Brand new game right when it hits store shelfs. But i still do love them and i still do like playing them. and in fact if had my way i'd become a more PC Gamer more so then console. but i can't really be a big time pc gamer at all because for one i'm not made of Money so i can't go out and spend lots of money on my own powerful gaming machine and my parents aren't made of Money either. But i feel E3 this year (pretty much like they do every year) put out some good games that are coming out on systems for gamers to look forward to playing.

That is just my cents in anyways. and also about Doom 3 i've never play any Doom games at all really. But alot of times the screen shots you see online for any type of Game isn't what the game is gonna look like on your Tv. so its kind of like Judging a book by its cover with out even Reading the book first.

I'm honestly not sure I've got an answer to give you. I think it comes down to this, when I were a lad (yes, this thread's making me feel about 50 rather than 26 LOL) I can remember playing games that just left me gasping. Elite, Doom, Civilization and a ton more. Just thinking back over the last few years though I don't remember much that had the same impact, largely I believe because the industry has become so large. There's too much money in it now for most companies to take a serious risk and, for the most part, it costs too much and takes too long for a backroom coder somewhere to break-in. There's still the occasional flash of brilliance from companies like Lionhead, but aside from that... *shrug*. For me games fire the imagination and there's only so many times you can throw yourself down a snow-covered mountain on an over-sized tea tray 😀

*Grin* After having seen the thing moving, I know two things: 1) It's gonna be gorgeous and, if id are up to their old tricks, probably pretty damn scary. 2) My PC is looking at me with a kind of pleading stare not to buy it as it'll probably cause things to melt... 😀
