Does anyone else feel this way? First Amityville, now House of Wax...shakes head...Is no one in the business original anymore?

XOXO

I have been feeling this way for many years steph. the only thing that Remakes equel for Hollywood theses days is MORE MONEY in there pockets and more people in the theater seats paying money to go watch the remake.

John buddy get working on an original Zombie movie script. :happyfloa

They're just cowardly, sticking to known formulaic hits from the past.

Personally, I'm sick of all of it! There's no creativity, no originality, no thought, they just assume everyone's under 30 yrs old and not remembering what the original films were like.

I detested Charlie's Angels and Mod Squad. Batman was okay, but nothing like the original. These people raise ticket prices and churn out garbage assuming the public is stupid enough to accept them as entertainment.

Yeah Steph-I'm sick t death of remakes! :sowrong: 😡 :Grrr: :ranty:

truthfully, a remake of the amityville horror, should not have been made. The story is based from where i live and at one point i have drove by the house, and to see it in person, it does give you an eerie feeling. So eerie that it doesnt need to be remade, its just a site seeing it in person.

Sweet USATKLER...... :cool2:

have you ever stepped foot inside the house?

Those suits at Hollywood think the general public are a bunch of suckers! There should be a public protest with moviegoers boycotting movie theaters during the summer. That's when the suits make the most money. Hitting them in the pockets will make them take interest our despleasure.

I dunno. I used to feel the same way, Steph, wondering why Hollywood kept churning out remakes. I used to blame the studio execs, but y'know what? Nowadays, I blame the ignorant herds that flock to the movies. There ARE still great, innovative, original, thought-provoking movies being made, and they DO occassionally make it into the theatres...but no one goes to see them.

Most of the drones I work with were utterly unaware that there even WERE originals of flicks like "Gone In 60 Seconds" or "The Fast and the Furious", or even "Dawn of the Dead", for that matter.

I'm actually pretty pepped for "War of the Worlds", although it could wind up being a big-budget disaster. There's a "Fantastic Four" in the works. How many were even aware that they'd actually already DONE a film version of the comic(apparently, it was so awful, it was immediately shelved; it's available on the bootleg curcuit still)? When they can bring something fresh to a retelling of a story, esp. using some of the fantastic effects available these days, I'm usually for it. I say usually because word has it that they've tapped Peter Jackson to do a "King Kong" remake. There's one I really REALLY wish wouldn't get messed with. The original is one of my all-time favorite films: DON'T FUCK WITH IT! Certain films should have some sort of sacred remake shield around them that forbids any futzing, like "The Wizard of Oz"...(don't bring up "The Wiz" to me. That doesn't count. It was made in the mid-`70's, and everybody was on drugs back then)

The whole remake quandary is such an iffy subject. I mean, WHY in Gawd's name did they ever bother to do a scene-for-scene remake of Hitchcock's immortal "Psycho", fer Christ's sake?!? On the other hand, BOTH versions of "Cape Fear"(the `61 and the `91) are excellent movies in their own rights.

Personally, I think remakes have their place, especially if a movie with maybe afew faults can be improved upon. It's just that usually, the opposite occurs, like with the incredible "Island of Lost Souls", based on the Dr. Moreau story. It's been remade several times over the years, and just seems to get further and further away from the stunning masterpeice that was the original film version.

So, as you can tell, I'm sorta ambivalent on the remake-bashing. Just depends on WHAT they're remaking, and WHO'S involved, I suppose.

Thanks for the thoughts y'all. i guess I could watch before judging but I just don't want to!

XOXO

Though I agree that it's just suits trying to make a buck, I kinda look at remakes as a way of bringing a different view to the table. Sometimes I watch older movies and think, 'what if they had done THIS instead' or 'imagine if they had today's technology to do some of those scenes". The perfect example would be George Lucas' endless tinkering with his movies.
Most recently, I watched "Hunchback of Notre Dame" with Charles Laughton, which had already been done with Lon Chaney Sr, and would later be redone with Anthony Quinn.
It's a mixed bag, sometimes working and sometimes not. I was not impressed with the Texas Chainsaw remake, but the Dawn of the Dead remake ruled.

The Sean Man

Okay, scratch my meanderings above.

They're about to come out with a remake of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".

Bomb Hollywood.

I mean it.

On another note. Not only is there a virulent strain of remakia-contagia going around, but with movies like "The Ring 2", now it's morphed into the deadly remakia-sequelitis-flu, for which there is no cure...

True, but that was the idea...the 80s one was supposed to be dark, like the comic was in the beginning (before Robin was added, anyway. ). I can't wait for Batman Begins, since it seems he'll be interrogating thugs rather than just beating them up (gotta have SOME kind of "detective work" in a Batman movie)

And I can't believe you guys left out the most horrible remake of all..."Titanic". I saw an old black and white film with the same name...200 times better than the one starring DiCrapio.

That would be "A Night To Remember". Good call, HeMan. Excellent film!

I guess I must've thought it was called Titantic cause...well, that was the ship in the movie. I only saw it once, though ....on AMC (american movie classics or whatever the channel is that shows the old movies.)

I only watched a few mins of it, but those few mins were tons better than the whole Titanic movie.

The Sean Man

Dawn of the Dead remake was good. But no where near as good though as the Original that was put out by George Romeo... nothing can beat it.

No doubt, about the whole remake glut. is it my imagination, or has The Matrix series been only one of very few films with some degree of originality released in the last few years? (just a guess *grin*)

I think all of us members here at the TMF need to start OUR VERY OWN Original and Professional Movie Script plan idea :woot:

i dont think we are allowed to anymore. But when you look at it up close, it does look like an evil face and i wouldnt want to go in it. Like i said, to seeit up close its scary enough. One day if i can remember how to get to it, i will take a picture of it. I dont even know if it is still there, but the remake should make the town be popular again.

Yeah if you have time (and how busy you are with things) you should really think about taking a small trip down thier and snap a few good pictures of it. i wouldn't mind seeing it for myself (since i haven't yet i don't believe since i don't live in where you are or anywhere near the house).....

I liked the remake of "Walking Tall" with the Rock. The original was awesome but I thought Rock and the gang did an overall good job.

Actually, same story here, bro. I caoght the final minutes of it, and it was powerful stuff. I got all chocked-up, what with the band still playing on as the ship sank, and the old man telling the kid that everything was gonna be alright, even as the ship was taking on water. I'm one of, like, four people who didn't manage to catch Cameron's epic "Titanic", so I can't comment on it, but I definately wanna see the full "A Night To Remember" someday.

Saaaay, when're you gonna come out with a remake of "Masters of the Universe", anyway?

Cool. looking forward to it. thanks man!

Thanks to the screen name of one of our members here, I was reminded about another badly concieved remake in the works. Word has it they're busy with another "Wicker Man", this time starring Nicolas Cage, last I heard. The original is a terrific movie.

Again, I wish they'd attempt to remake the many movies out there that were okay, with afew flaws(ones that could stand some improvement), as opposed to the classics.

I think it'd be interesting to see remakes of either "Logan's Run" or "Soylent Green", for instance...
