Even though I am a major Superman fan, I have only watched a few episodes of Smallville as it just didn't seem like the Superman story. I even thought Welling was just okay as Clark Kent. I did like Lex Luthor though. When I first saw the publicity pics of her that the WB put out, I was like "Heh. She looks okay I guess." Those pictures don't do her justice. In fact she looks completely different in the episodes than she does in those promo pics. However, Erica's portrayal of Lois is so perfect, it makes Welling seem more like what Clark Kent as a youth should be. Now Welling is Clark-pre Superman to me whenever Durance is with him.
None of these screen caps are great, but this is the only one I could find of them together. It isn't a good picture of her
Before he was just sitting there kissing everyones ass. Now, when she is around, they battle as their personailties clash. He is laid back and she is sassy, and speaks exactly what she is thinking, even if it isn't the right thing to say at the time. Essentially, Lois Lane. And when he tells Lana "She's bossy. She's stuck up. She's rude. I can't stand her." And Lana says "The great ones usually start out that way." She is right. While someday Lois and Clark will be the perfect match - as teenagers, they are oil and water. These things that Clarke complains about her are exactly the same qualities that draws his attention to her later on in life. Lois and Clark have always started out as rivals, but then she falls in love with Superman by default. But when she eventually finds out Clark is Superman, and Clarke can be just Clark again, she is in love with him not just because he is Superman, but that they are the perfect match when that happens. She also shows why Lex Luthor grows to hate her from her dogged reporting. Her take no prisoners attitude to getting at the truth, and telling people when they are B/S. She really looks and acts as Lois Lane stepped out of the comics. She is also the live action version of Lois from the Superman: The Animated Series
which, with Dana Delaney's superb performance, I think got her spot on. And for once they have a live action Lois with her trademark "doe eyes", as she is supposed to be. When she has her hair in a pony tail is when she really looks like Lois.
Even her manerism's and facial expression's are exactly what I imagined Lois' to be. Margot Kidder was okay. I never really liked what's her name from "Lois and Clark" as Lois. This is the first time I am seeing the real Lois Lane as Christopher Reeve is the real Superman. The only thing that isn't spot on is that her hair isn't jet black as Lois' always is, but I can overlook that. I think Erica's real hair is jet black, so she still fits. I hope to hell that she is the actress they choose as Lois in the movie version. I really wish she had been Lois in the Christopher Reeve movies. That would have been the ultimate. Again, even though the producers of Smallville have once again thrown the timeline of Superman to hell (Lois and Clark are not supposed to meet till he goes to work at the Daily Planet, I am glad she is in the show. I am also hoping to hell that he is now Superman in the movie if she is Lois.
