If I had the money I'd just hop into the old pickup and head for the mountains. Maybe rent a secluded spot for a few months.

1. Slowly isolate myself from friends and family, increasing length of time between conversations so they get accustomed to long periods of time without hearing from me (imperative to get a good head start -- can't have a missing person's report in just 48 hours... I want 'em to wait a week or more.).

2. Build enough cash to live on for a few months (important for if you need to dip back into society now and then, to help get the distance you need to begin your journey, or to patronize an exotic dancer named Zshin Von Lin).

3. Take a course or two on survivalism. Maybe something like this or this. Round it out with repeated viewing and copious note-taking of "Man vs. Wild", "Survivorman" and reading military field manuals on survival tactics.

4. Leave a note. "Gone walkabout. I'll be back."

5. Get gone. I'd try Argentina.
