My reason for posting this is twofold. First, it should make you laugh that some people insist on reacting before they think. Second, this shows that the golden rule is not outdated, but the best way to get what you want in most any situation. 99 percent of the folks I deal with are very cool, but there's always some pissed-off old man out there to make you smile.

This was an actual email, and my actual response, all for your entertainment and a peek into customer service of an adult website. Out of respect for this gentlyman's privacy, there is no identifiable info posted here. The moral of the story is

Don't be a Dick

My exact response, a whopping 2 hours later:

"Sir,

Your password is working fine, and has been since the moment you subscribed. Please be advised that the system is CaSe SeNsItIvE. I would suggest copying and pasting your password combo in the future to ensure you have entered it correctly. I have changed your password combo as requested.

With all due respect, that the way you have chosen to address this issue is less than respectfull. Between all of the sites I own, I handle thousands of transactions every month, and have been for years. I take offense when someone doesn't give me the courtesy of a polite inquiry when they have a problem. I take pride in doing business with folks in the virtual arena the same way I do with the two brick-and-mortar companies I own and operate offline. I am ALWAYS at your service, and will respond as promptly as I possibly can. I will not, however, be harassed by anyone at any time, and I would suggest visiting one of the many sites we advertise for free on ET to find a company that you may prefer to do business with.

I look forward to having you as a continuing member, but will gladly and promptly refund your initial charge and bid you a fond adeu if you insist on rediculous threats, which any law enforcement agency could honestly care less about. Believe me, there are a multi-billion dollar illegal underground of less-than-honorable websites/webmasters that the government couldn't keep up with if they tried. I would suggest referring to the golden rule next time you have a problem.

Thank you,
Steve 🙂

Funny...

But not in the way I'd like it to be. As an owner of many types of busineses myself, it never ceases to amaze me that a certain % of customers adopt this attitude as their first line of communication. It's the equivalent of severing diplomatic ties and declaring war, or if you're in the hood it might translate to tipping a garbage can onto your cars windshield. Not in the 25+ years that I've been in business has this approach from a customer EVER resulted in action more prompt than a "normal" inquiry would receive, and at times (especially with the laundromats/dry cleaners) I've made it a point to let them hang themselves by calling law enforcement agencies...truly priceless when the police show up and explain reality to these deluded little wanna be lawyers...

Grab a drink (just one buddy...lol) and leave their attitude in the dustbin. Tomorrow someone will hopefully behave like a civilized sapient.
My condolences...

Thanks for the moral support Q 🙂 These people never get me down though. They are good for laugh at best. I would love to forward this to his mother and ask her how he got so angry hahaha

Impatient twit. Even if there is a problem, the least you can do is politely ask for help. Now, if no response is given for days or you get bad responses, then break out the anger. But not for something this simple. Some people have no respect.

Excellent response to the twat Steve; cutting and giving home truths, but to the point. Not gratuitously insulting either. In the time I was a member of your site I never had a single problem that wasn't swiftly corrected by your or yours.

Long may it last. 🙂

You haven't lived until you've dealt with people like this in the flesh, in a retail situation. One time, I was standing in line at a supermarket, at the deli counter, waiting to be served. A middle aged, unhappy woman wearing too much makeup and ostentacious jewelry was verbally berating the girl preparing her cold cuts. I turned to her, finally, and said, "lady, what the hell is wrong with you?"
"Excuse me?" she asked in shock.
"What the fuck's your problem? Can't you see she's busting her ass for you?"
"Uh-"
"Obviously, the reason she got up this morning was so that she could come in here and happily serve some nasty loudmouthed bastard like you, right?"
The woman began to get her pompous dander up.
"Look, why don't you just shut up and take your meat and go, and let her serve the next customer?"
With that, there rose the kind of ovation from the waiting multitudes that Derek Jeter receives for a ninth inning, two outs line drive through the gap. The embarrassed woman hastily took what was finished and left the line. The management threatened to call the police on me, and my girlfriend (waiting in line with me) didn't talk to me for a couple of hours, but it felt good.
We have too many people like that around here...

During my 25 years of dealing with customers, this kind of behavior is nothing new to me, particularly when I worked at the complaints department. I could write a book about my experiences there! All I can say to this phenomenon is: Some people are your best customers if they leave to buy from your competitors... 🙄

Hahaha there are some true gems of wisdom in this thread coming from all of you 🙂 Isn't life much more fun when you play well with the other kids out there?!

hehe
