I have not read this book, but stumbled upon this quotation in Encarta Encyclopedia '99:

The novel Ponder Heart (1957), an often comic story of small-town life, includes one scene that epitomizes Welty's penchant for grotesque, almost surreal violence. A dim-witted character mistakenly suffocates his wife to death while tickling her as a thunderstorm rages outside.

Where as I don't condone tickling to the point of asphyxiation, this may be interesting reading.

"Wow, how many Pulitzer Prize winners can do that?"

"Just me and Eudora Welty."

Sorry, this is the first time I've heard that name outside of the above context. Made me laugh 😀
