I broke my ankle 2 1/2 months ago and the recovery is just dragging on. I started physical therapy 3 weeks ago and it has been nothing but a joke. Initially they gave me a list of stretches to do in order to loosen up the joints around my ankle. I have been doing those for 3 weeks now and the exercises have become too easy. When I go to physical therapy, they don't even have me do any exercises there that I don't already do at home. I pay a 20 dollar co-pay each visit to go and do the same routine in physical therapy that they gave me to do at home, making me wonder why me and my insurance company are giving them money. I tell my physical therapist that I am walking in the boot without crutches and it doesn't hurt at all and he tells me to pick the crutches back up and use them. How am I supposed to gain strenth back in my ankle without apply anything pressure on it? It's been almost 3 months now since the injury, which was considered just a "mild break" by my doctor, so I don't see why things are being dragged out.
I am beginning to wonder if they are more in the business of milking therapy to ensure that I'll need more visits come my evaluation on this Friday. I've had it done to me before. I went to physical therapy for 2 months a year ago for my shoulder, and despite the fact that my shoulder felt great at the end of the 2 months, the girls says "well, just to be safe I'm gonna request more visits from your insurance company." Incidently she was hot so I didn't object to a being able to have her putting her hands on my body for another month, but all the same it seemed like it was more for the interest of making more money off my insurance than the concern of my well-being. It's funny because my physical therapist made a joke about this to the other pt last week saying something like, "we don't want these people to get better. That's less money for us." I knew he was joking, but I believe it was one of those jokes with a hidden truth to it. Anyone else ever feel like physical therapy was nothing more for you than a waste of your time and money?
