"Everything happens for a reason": Truth or Cop-Out

Here's my question - do YOU think that's true? Or do you think sometimes bad things just happen with no rhyme or reason?

Some things that happen are truly random. Some people can't stand that and must make up a reason for everything.

Honestly, I think it's one of those phrases people use so they don't drive themselves crazy blaming themselves for what went wrong or wondering if they had done something different.

Maybe I should start using this phrase more often. I drive myself crazy over a lot of things that I could apparently solve with it.

Anyway, no, I don't believe anything happens for a reason. I believe if something good happens, you're lucky; if something bad happens, that's life.

I'm not a big fan of the notion that there is a driving force in the universe. On the other hand, sometimes things have happened that seemed to just be a little more then coincidence. Ultimately, i don't know, and I suppose none of us truely know. I suppose this is part of the reason i reject organized religion.
