Not sure if there's already a thread like this, but just thought I'd see what everybody was digging this year.
My pick goes to Q-Tip's album The Renaissance, released last month. There don't seem to be too many hip hop heads on here, but I urge everybody to give this album a listen. It has a very mellow and soulful sound that is missing from much of today's hip hop. If you think artists like 50 Cent and Lil' Wayne represent what true hip hop sounds like, you are sadly, SADLY mistaken. None of that junk on the radio nowadays qualifies as real hip hop, and it's sad that those who aren't in the know base their (often negative) opinions of hip hop solely off what's popular and on the radio.
Yeah, there's my little attempt at a rant. So check out the album. It will blow your mind (hopefully).
