i see your favourite horror movies are a handfull of classics....
i like horror movies but i have a specially fond of italian movies,
my favourite ones are:
the church.
dellamorte dellamore ( AKA cementery man)
demons
suspiria
inferno (dario argento's one)
deep red
dark waters (mariano baino's one)
kiyoshi kurosawa's kairo (AKA pulse)
planet terror
dawn of the dead (the romero's original and the zack snyder's remake)
from dusk till dawn
and more...

Although I find them really campy today, back in the 80's I was really into the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. As a matter of fact, the only time I ever succesfully had sex in a movie theater was during "Dream Warriors". 😉

The Phantasm movies were great as well.

I pretty much was into the whole "Fangoria" thing back in the 80's, it was part of my cultural heritage...but I prefer the more psychological and "smart" horror/thrillers these days. I mean...the "Cube" movies count as horror, don't they? What a great idea...horror movies for math/physics geeks. 😀

My favorite horror movie franchise is Halloween. The original John Carpenter masterpiece and its sequel stand as two of my very favorite movies of all-time, period. Beautiful in their simplicity.

Pretty anything from this time made by David Cronenberg was awesome.

The Fly, Videodrome, Scanners, among others were truly awesome pieces of work and were horrors that actually made think about the nature of humanity, at least videodrome did.

Don't forget The Brood and his earliest major production, Shivers!

Man, there's so much greatness from EITHER decade - I don't know where to start! A fine, fun time for movie horror. To this day I seek out the best/worst/weirdest of either era.

Pee Wees Play house. j/k seriously tho. the texas chainsaw massacre and any friday the 13th.

Night of the Comet. Hands down. Best horror movie ever.

And one that I still haven't gotten around to seeing.

It's fantastic. Especially the teenaged cheerleader striptease, the mall shoot out, and, of course, Robert Beltran (of Star Trek: Voyager fame) in a Santa suit.

You know my sister has had that movie for awhile now but i never thought to watch it but i will now

You can't go wrong with a teenage cheerleader striptease. 😉

Carrie
Black Christmas
Sleepaway Camp
The Hitcher

Some of the lesser spoken of classics...

BTW, good to see some Dario Argento love in this thread. Suspiria is truly a work of art.

i'll be honest never seen the film so i can't comment on it , hey sammi long time no see 😉

I actually forgot to put A nightmare on elm street 1 2 and 3 and the dunwich horror

I have the Dunwich Horror somewhere on VHS. I'm a big fan of the Archaic Olde Gentleman's writings (Mr Lovecraft, of course)- does the movie hold up compared to the short story?? (Haven't watched it yet)

Short answer: No

Slightly longer answer: However, if you're like me, you'll be thrilled enough watching anything based on Lovecraft's writings to care.

Slightly whiny answer: I can't recall seeing any movie based on Lovecraft that's gotten the "feel" of his writings quite right. It's a difficult task.

So, it's set during the holidays? Just one more reason for me to see it then! I try to slip in at least one Christmas-season horror movie somewhere during those insane days between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's become a sort of "tradition" with me...
