Hey guys ,

...... just curious about people's musical tastes here ........ but , who would you say is the greatest , best , rock 'n' roll-est band ever? I vote for Led Zeppelin ....... their catalog of songs simply blows me away. THEY ARE THE GREATEST!!! ............ Led Zeppelin's mine , who's yours?

I don't think I could pick just one. There have been so many bands I have adored over the years for different reasons, and my tastes are constantly changing. My favorite band is currently Nickelback. But I've had many favorites as I've grown up.

If I had to narrow it down to one band whom I felt had the most talent and the all around best material during the duration of their career (and I don't know if everyone would even consider them an actual rock band), I would have to go with Queen. Freddy Mercury was a God, IMO. His vocals and melodies are immortal.

Even though you guys see me in alot of hip hop discussions, my favorite musical act/group/artist of all time is also Led Zeppelin.

I'm a die-hard Beatles fan, and especially love the music from the "White Album" and "Abbey Road." But in terms of down and dirty Rock music, I'd have to say Led Zeppelin rules. I listened to their music while I was driving around town last night and I was totally captivated by their sound. I listened to "Stairway To Heaven" for the zillionth time and it was still as great as it was when I first heard it 34 years ago.

The Who, Queen, Cream, Jimi Hendrix Experience, etc. Rock music is great, period.

I agree with all of the choices you guys have made so far, I just want to add another to the list. AC/DC has several songs made in 1975 that kids today know the words too, and songs from the album Back in Black can still be heard in night clubs and school dances across the nation and that one was made 25 years ago. I think that timeless quality is what makes a rock band truly great.

I don't know who the greatest of all time is, but right now I'm really loving the White Stripes. I love the raw sound they create with just two people.

And I'm madly in love with the way Meg White shyly looks away from the camera 🙂

I don't want to hijack the thread, but my fave is "Fell in Love with a Girl." They shot that video by first filming it live-action, then running the video through an editor that pixelated it into huge Lego-like blocks. Then they took each frame of video and rebuilt it with actual Legos and shot it in stop-motion. I've watched it like a hundred times and I'm still blown away by it, on top of what a great song it is.

Sweet! ... looks like Zepp is receiving a "whole lotta love" from TMFers ...... I , too , like Queen & AC/DC .... as well as many others , but to me , Led Zeppelin reigns supreme ........... in regards to the White Stripes : I think they're friggin awesome! ..... they're probably one of the best , if not THE best , new-school rock bands ........ "Seven Nation Army" is a kick-ass song ........ & that video "Fell In Love With A Girl" was directed by either Spike Jonze ( "Being John Malkovich" , "Adaptation" ) or Michel Gondry ( "Eternal Sunshine ........ " ) , I can't remember which one at the moment , but ,yeah ...... great video!

Ooooooooooooooooooo, Freddie gets my vote too! Obsecenely talented and larger than life!

I also loved the Beatles, Squeeze and ELO.
XOXO

Led Zeppelin here too!! I love all theur songs but I can;t have enough of listening to Kashmir, whole lotta love.. :cool2:

I also have to include Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cream,Steppenwolf,Foghat,Warrant,
Ratt, and the christian rock band "Stryper" as other faves..

While they may currently be only a shadow of what they used to be, I'd vote for U2.

Boxcar Willie And The Hobo Band !

Albums not available in any store (believe me, they tried)

Without a doubt, my favorite band is Aerosmith. I've got everything they've put out (boy, that sounded wrong, didn't it?), go to any of their concerts I can make, and have a fairly disturbing amount of knowledge about them. I love their older stuff, the dirty, sexual sounds and themes, but I dig how they can adapt to the times, such as by injecting pop into the mix on Just Push Play. I also enjoy how they don't mind taking risks....Honkin' on Bobo is a great example of this.

Beatles are number one for me. But way high on my list would be Zeppelin as well as The Mothers of Invention. Throw in Jeff Beck too. His Blow By Blow album produced by George Martin gets my vote for best album of 1975.

#1 for me will always be Rush. So many diverse styles to choose from out of different periods, intelligent lyrics, unreal musicianship and a great band in so many genres.

Followed by Marillion, Triumph, Led Zeppelin, Asia and pre-Top 40 Speedwagon.

:cool2:

I am with Dave2112. Rush is, and always will be, my all time fave. Their sound is unique, the lyrics are anecdotal, and the talent is second to none. I am not a musician, but I understand that their music is very difficult to replicate. Perhaps Dave can second that.

Groups that I liked also include but are not limited to

The Beatles
Led Zep
The Who
Pink Floyd
REO Speedwagon

That's just the tip of the iceberg

Electric Light Orchestra, Kansas, The Beatles, Queen, The Moody Blues, Elton John (just the early years) and Supertramp.

..................................THE FLOYD!!!!!!!!

Followed by the 2nd version of Deep Purple (Gillan & Glover era)-who "smoked"
Zeppelin as a live act!!!!!(evidence - "Made in Japan" vs "Song Remains the Same")
Followed by the 4th incantation of King Crimson (Fripp,Wetton,Cross & Bruford)
Notables:Yes, & Genesis (with Peter Gabriel).
