I created this thread so we music lovers can learn about recording artists who may not be well known by the public, but they are near and dear to us. Please add your own choices to this thread, otherwise you'll be subjected to my tastes in music:

I first heard this lady's CD a few years back when I became interested in music from other countries. Her name is Francoise Hardy and she is very popular in France and Europe, but not many people know about her here in the States. Check out her songs in this link (My personal favorite song of hers can be heard on 'Disc 2", "Track #15):

One of my favorite bands besides Rush is Marillion. They are huge in Europe, and had a couple of hits over here in the mid-eighties.

If there's anyone into eclectic, progressive music that doesn't kowtow to the pop-princess media, check out Marillion. They are a highly proficient band with a style that trancends rock.

Other bands and artists that I like that aren't houshold names are:

Savatage
Warlock
The Sundays
Tied and Tickled Trio (No, I'm not making that one up!)
The Flys
Clannad
Voivod

I remember your story about them, Tron! I hope I get a chance to do what you did!

If you're more into the music of the 1960s, then you may want to check out this fantastic group! This album should have been #1 on the charts in 1967, but it only made it to #154. Ahead of their time, I guess. As usual, if you scroll down you can click on songs from the album:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000058983/102-9856174-9656129?v=glance

Remember, people, this may be one of the most self indulgent threads at TMF. Push your musical tastes on the masses and don't worry about being judged! Someone is bound to buy a CD you recommended simply because you posted it here! Okay, they may avoid the CD like the plague, too, but the point is, let's have fun with this!

Dave..

You might want to check out Broadzilla.
They seem to be right in with your tastes.

Go to their website and click on Ear Candy.

I know honey~I am reknowned for my excellent taste (and modesty!)😉
Seriously though, I predict her as being the next big thing~do you know that album had zero publicity? It's all been word of mouth and she's cute as a button!

XOXO

I've seen a lot of buttons in my day and none of them came close to being as cute as she is!

This next favorite of mine used to be the lead singer for the 80s group Lone Justice. Her album "High Dive" is simply beautiful and she is no Pop Tart like Britney or Christina. She has a great voice and great music sense... her brother was a member of the group Love, which I mentioned earlier in this thread. Again, scroll down to hear song samples:

She sings so well...she's so cute and giggly....and we have to wait a year or two before we can talk about tickling her!

By the way-Featherfingers-Have you purchased any more David Sylvian stuff !?

As for me-Having heard Roy Harper singing Pink Floyd's song "Have a Cigar" for so many years,I decided to get one of his CD's called
"Q".It's kind of Folk Rockish.I'm not sure if all his material is like that,I think he did more acoustic folk music material before he released "Q" in 1975.The British Site has samples to hear.

Socksoff, no I haven't... but that doesn't mean that I don't like his music. He's great! I've had to spend my money on other things like a digital camera and quarterly taxes...that set me back quite a bit as far as finances are concerned. I've got enough CD's to operate my own radio station.

Check out my next post! Thanks for reminding me!

Here is that CD that was referred to previously. It is mellow 90% of the time and then in the song "All My Mother's Names" it sounds like early 70s Jazz Fusion or something. Here goes:

i haven't heard them yet (since either my soundcard or speakers suck) but i've heard that Fozzy is pretty good

I just listened to this, Giggleygirl... not the actual CD but the song samples. Although I'm not really into today's hard rock, I like what I heard from Fozzy. The singer has a pretty good voice... a lot of guys sound like they're straining too hard or their voice doesn't fit the style of music they are singing... his voice sounds great and you can actually hear a melody. I was actually expecting music that was darker and more gloomy, judging by the skeleton and demonic looking Pig Head guy photo on their website.

Well this R&B group broke up now, but when they were together, they had classic songs, but because of the popular groups of Boyz II Men, Jodeci, Silk and others, they were slept on. The name of this R&B group is called

Hey, Natural, did any of this group's member become a successful solo artist? I'm surprised I wasn't hip to them because they were popular when I was a nightclub DJ, and I loved to play those slow jams! (Still do!):

I dont have a link to a site or anything with a demo of their song, but an absolute favorite song of mine is from 1973 by a band called King Harvest. The song is "Dancing in the Moonlight". While I'm sure some of us have heard that song, the band isnt a very popular one, as that is about the only hit song I know of by them.
That's my song by a band not many of us know. I consider it a classic and timeless song, still played on radio 32 years later with a great sound.

Mitch, I have a CD with that song on it. And I found the link for that CD, so you and everyone else can hear that song, as well as many other 70s hits (watch out though... "Feelings" is on there, too). Scroll down and click on track #1:

Hey, Enny! I've always wondered about PJ Harvey... heard about her but never heard anything by her. I just clicked on her website and I LIKE what I hear! She's rather punkish, isn't she?

Now Rasputina is really something! I just may have to buy one of their CD's! See, that's the beauty of this thread. You can be introduced to so much good and interesting music here:
