Where are the best places that you have gone on vacation and/or visited and why?

Other than Germany, my more specific short list would be Vancouver, B.C. and Boise, ID.

Granted, I haven't been to the likes of Rome or Athens yet, but having been around the world a little I find those two locales my favorites and a little odd at that.

So what cities, states and/or countries have 'tickled your fancy' or made you glad you weren't in Kansas anymore?

Top of my list would have to be Vegas. I have been there 9-10 times now and loved every minute of each trip. The roller coasters, the midways, the various amusement parks, the arcades, the free concerts, being able to drink alcohol on the streets, etc...

Another place of note for me personally would be the greater L.A. area (Universal Studios, Ballgames, Disneyland, Six Flags, yadda yadda

Those are probably my faves so far. I'm a sucker for tourist traps and anything with rides in it.

jesus so many...

cities: rome (i love roman history-geeky i know but meh)
queensland, New Zealand (so many things to do and its gorgeous-surounded by mountains and with the nicest lake iv ever seen at the bottom)
new york (c'mon its amazing)
sydney (just a cool chilled out place)
lyon (worked alot out there last year and propper fell in love)

countries: New Zealand (just...so...god...damn...BEAUTIFUL)
Australia (again, lovely but bit more rugged than NZ and ozzie LOVE a party)
france (alot of engish people dont like france and the french but i j'adore them)
singapore (unbelievably clean and just the right amount of crazy)
USA (only gets 5th coz ive only been to 2 places so far, LA which i hated and NY which i loved)

*course, goes without saying England tops the countries list and the mighty London tops the cities list but i didnt want to be vain....

Fishing the lakes of Santee-Cooper in South Carolina. Also my time in Philadelphia during NEST.

Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities IMO!
New York, London and Edinburgh are great too!
And countries like Egypt, Mauritius, and the U.S. (of course) are def. worth a visit. But yeah, there are too many to mention and I guess every country has something great to offer.

I want to go to Thailand. More specifically Ton Soi.

I also want to go to New Zealand, where my sister in law lives.
And I want to go to Vatican City.

I will still not trade any place i´ve seen for any of the special places i have in my own country.

And mind you, i have seen a bit.

As get away spot...will have to be my island...Pico, Azores, the blue islands 🙂 And second spot is in nearest island of Faial, the small and lovely town called Horta.

And if i had to pick a city, sorry....i will still pick my own...Lisboa, city of the seven hills, older then Romme, once more powerfull, the true city that never sleeps.....that thing about NY is because they dont know what it is to really stay awake for days and party untill the sun rises again 🙂

But...credit where it should be given, NY is really high on my heart. I would totally be happy to return and enjoy that fabulous city once more. Same for London. They are both special places.

Outside Portugal i will also recomend Como in Italy....fantastic town by a beautiful lake and with the Alps as landscape...you cant get wrong with it.

Monaco is surely a stunning place also, altough i just felt like a beggar there 😛 😛 😛 Not sure if i could even buy a bottle of watter so i would rather visit somewhere where i can actually live 🙂

ANYONE should be happy they are not in Kans-Ass anymore. 😀

I love Philadelphia, being a huge history geek. And I think something goes on there the first weekend in May, I might have stumbled across that once or twice. 😉

Laugh if you will, but I once drove from Kansas City to West Virginia. Stayed a week, and loved it. I also ventured into southern Ohio.

San Antonio is probably my favorite city in Texas to visit, and it's only 90 miles away. The Riverwalk is a bit too touristy for my taste, but there are a ton of things to see, including the Mission Trail which includes the Alamo. The King Fredericksburg District, with it's restored Victorian era mansions and bungalows is always worth a visit. I could go on and on.

It's been many years, but I went to San Diego once and enjoyed it. Been to Colorado many times, it's breathtaking mountains are worth the trip. We went there on vacation once when I was a kid and drove up to Cripple Creek. There is, or was, an old bank building that had been turned into a museum. Most of the furniture and teller cages were made at the factory of my great great grandfather, a Civil War vet who owned a furniture factory in Garnett Kansas after the war.

Too much information, I know. So sue me. 😛

One of my favorite places

Hoyt's Lodges ...Cottages by the Sea
Rye, New Hampshire

www.hoytslodges.com

I've been comming back to this place for over 10 years. The property is approx. 300 ft from the sea. It is quaint and quiet. The cottages have fully equipped kitchens, bbq grills and lobsters pots. Rates are very reasonable. I've always thought this place would be great for a gathering.

I've been to a lot of countries over the years, but one of the most magical spots ever was bringing our new boat from Seattle to Alaska. We pulled into Bartlett Cove, Glacier Bay National Park just after sunset and were surrounded by spouting humpback whales. It was incredible to sit out on our own deck and listen to them but not see them. Really unforgettable.

I enjoy Cape Cod, in the offseason, when everyone and their brother aren't there. . .

For me it's Vegas. Been ther 14 time in the last 5 years. It was there where I learned to come out of my shell and take a risk, went up to my first girl there in a bar and just realized that like if too short to be negative and just enjoy life.
The women there love my New York accent, I have see almost every comedy show. I saw each Cirque Du Sole there (some more then once) did every attraction there is to do, saw a number of headliners, and saw every topless show on the strip that features the female form in all its glory. Of all the show's Crazy Horse is the best I see it 2 times a year. It is classey without being smutty and the women are beautiful.
Vegas also has the Valley of Fire about an hour away, on of the most beautiful places in the US, it sits outside the Moapa Paiute Indian Reservation and I have grown to respect this very small tribe that currently has only about 350 left in the nation.

Asside from there Sedona AZ is just the most peaceful place I ever vistited. It is just natural beauty.

There is just something about the Southwest that makes this New York City boy's heart sing.

Galveston is a favorite city of mine. It's been too long, time for a road trip. 😀

So many things to do and see. The Strand was known as "The Wall Street of the Southwest" prior to the hurricane of 1900, and many of the Victorian era buildings survive. You can also see the remains of Jean Lafitte's wine cellar.

The star attraction of the Texas Seaport Museum is the tall ship Elissa, built in 1877. It's one of the few of it's type extant.

Seawolf Park features the USS Cavalla and USS Stewart, the former a WWII submarine and the latter a destroyer escort. I won't try to list all the museums and historical sites. 😉

If that's not your thing you can wander up and down the Seawall, with it's shops, restaurants and people watching, or hang out on one of the many beaches and work on your tan. A variety of wildlife can be observed, and I'm not talking about the bars and nightclubs. 😉 If you get lucky, you might see a pod of dolphins swimming by in the gulf.

Forgot the obvious. If you enjoy fishing, you can throw a line in the water just about anywhere.

Been to lots of places but I'd have to say my favorite was Hawaii. 🙂

Cities I can remember vacationing at and having a blast at (and I'm sure I'll miss some):

Hawaii - various places in Oahu and Maui
Orlando, FL
Virginia Beach, VA
Outer Banks, NC
Philadelphia, PA (one of my favorite weekend getaways and I have one planned actually)
San Francisco, CA
Seattle, WA
Portland, OR
Boston, MA
Dallas, TX
Louisville, CO (beautiful city that doesn't get a lot of credit)
Washington D.C.

I'm in Vancouver Sabrya, if you ever Venture here again, please look me up and lets tickle if you want.

Oh, that's awesome. I sure will let you know, since I have relatives there I hope I can make it to Canada someday soon. Hugs

For places in the United States that I have enjoyed going to vacation on are:

New Bern, North Carolina (S-O beautiful, picturesque and lovely....Nicholas Sparks lives there...squee!)
Atlantic Beach, NC
Beaufort, NC
Williamsburg, VA
Washington D.C.
Philadelphia, PA
Myrtle Beach, SC

However my preference for travel shall always be Europe, since I am a history nerd 🙂

London, England is beautiful...but I wasn't a fan of the food
Paris, France....G.o.r.g.e.o.u.s....I love France and the French, the food is delicious and the museums and historical sites are just amazing
Florence, Italy...I first went there after high school, then studied abroad there for 5 months in college and fell in L.O.V.E...Florence is the perfect city. Everything is within walking distance, it's filled with beautiful Italian palaces, delicious restaurants, wonderful people, famous and brilliant art, and great shopping 🙂 I revisited Florence last month and I still get a warm feeling when I am there 🙂 it's so welcoming
Rome, Italy...cause I love Roman history and all the ancient sites are beautiful...plus all the small churches and especially the Vatican are just breathtaking!

For smaller towns in Italy to go to I highly recommend Assisi, Siena, and Fiesole 🙂

i've been to bilbao, barcelona, madrid, munich, london, amsterdam, bern, zurich, and geneva. zurich, switzerland is my favorite place in the universe, even though i've only been once. i would cut off my arm to live there for the rest of my life.

this picture i took doesn't remotely do it justice, but god. i want to be there forever.
