why is it that the feather is the classic symbol of tickling? how and why did it start? for me, the feather isn't a very good tickling tool. when you use the soft part you can't feel it enough for it to tickle and when you use the tip it hurts! so what do you think?

I am not sure. But maybe the feather does tickle effectively...and the 'ler just has to have the right skills and the 'lee must have the right amount of ticklishness.

I've often wondered that as well, why the feather is generally associated with tickling? I'm not really sure, but as for the part about it not tickling, it may just be the type of feather you're using. If it's just a little feather, like a fake one or something it won't work that well. You need a real feather such as a ostrich feather or something like that, they work very well.

ok, maybe i am using bad feathers then. im still curious to know why the feather out of all of the instruments?

It's all in the mind...

I've rarely--in my (Ahem!) extensive experience as a tickler (Is my nose growing?)--found a feather to be a particularly effective tickling tool.
Ah, but feathers in artful depictions of tickling are definitely a wonderful stimulant to MY imagination, so I value them highly there. Consider them lightning rods for the eyes and the fantasies of ticklephiles. A well-deployed feather in a video, drawing, or story can wonderfully tickle the sensibility of the viewer/reader.
This is perhaps best demonstrated by presentations in a vid or drawing of the moment when a bound, ticklish subject becomes aware of an approaching feather. Wicked intentions couldn't be more clearly symbolized--or more entertainingly conveyed.
And who's to say that, with a particularly receptive ticklish individual, the very sight of the feather couldn't be equally stimulating and nervous giggle generating in real life...:devil2:
