I'm a bit embarrassed to admit, that, even though I wanted it to happen, my head was "isolated", as my friend Adam likes to say.. and I just found out literally minutes ago about the Atlanta Hawks-Brooklyn Nets playoff series.
I don t follow football or hockey, so, I dont know if there have been any Atlanta-New York playoff series in those sports over the years., but, in regard to basketball, and baseball.
This is the first series between teams in those cities in sixteen years.
I remember it well. It was the year I moved from the NYC area to Lancaster. That year, there were THREE Atlanta -New York playoff series.
In May, 1999, literally, as I was moving from Northern NJ, to Lancaster, the Hawks and Knicks were playing in the Eastern Conference playoffs in the NBA. The Knicks swept the series, four games to none.
In October, 1999, one of my all time favorite baseball series ever. The Atlanta Braves beat the hated NY Mets in the NL Championship Series, four games to two.
Also that month, the Yankees swept the Braves four games in a row in the 1999 World Series.
Back then, I was very focused on baseball/basketball, and I was extremely excited about all of those series.
Now, I'm not nearly as into it. That having been said, I still plan to watch at least some of the game (s).
I hope Atlanta wins. They had a great regular season, and would have home court advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs all the way to the NBA Finals. Three bad losses the last week, including one the other night at home to the Knicks, who finished with the worst record in the NBA's Eastern Conference,. have slowed down what up until this week was a wonderful regular season for the Hawks.
I know that anything can happen in a playoff series. I expect to see a good series between the Hawks and Nets.
