I have his book "Knuckleballs" from 1985. In the book, Mr Niekro reports that while in the minor leagues with the Braves, his teammates put shoe polish on his hands, and then proceeded to "tickle his face with a feather". He claimed he woke up the next day with dark color shoe polish on his face.

I guess this means at the time.. his face was ticklish.
