does anyone speak any other languages besides english? how many languages do you guys speak? are there any that you don't speak that you would like to learn or get better at? any special reason that you'd like to learn those particular languages? what's your favorite one to speak?

for me, i had about 3 and a half years of spanish in high school. i can sort of get by on what i remember and they gave us a crash course in survival spanish during my academy last year. i'd love to become more fluent in spanish because it'll help me with me job and since vegas is very heavily spanish speaking populated, it'll help elsewhere as well.

i'd also love to learn italian and greek, which are the languages of my ancestors. some that i would really love to learn are japanese, german, gaelic, russian (which i have heard is one of the most difficult to learn), and arabic, but i'd also love to learn some of the native american dialects, such as navajo, apache and sioux.

so how about it guys? was sprechen sie?

Umm .. I speak Swedish, of course, and with that comes some Norwegian and Danish.
I also speak English somewhat fluent, German and some Spanish. Then it's all the random
words from random languages which isn't that useful since it's mostly bad words ;D

Japanese would be so awesome to speak and write, but other than that I'm quite
satisfied with the few languages I already know..

Well, German is my mother tongue, and besides I speak English fluently, and French quite well.
I'd love to learn Spanish in the near future, as it's the most romantic language to me... tell a woman in Spanish how much you love her and what you wish to do with her, and she'll melt like ice cream in the sun 😉

I took four years of French in high school and can't remember shit. I'd like to pick up some Italian, maybe learn a little Spanish. Someday, someday....

When I was at school I learned French, we didn't get a choice for languages, unfortunately.

I remember some French words but I doubt I'd be able to pull a sentence together other than, my name is or my age is etc etc.

I really wanna learn German, I know the odd word and phrasing but thats all unfortunately. I even bought one of those tape things many moons ago now to teach myself Italian, which I still wanna learn. It was lovely hearing the Italians speak when I was in Italy last year, I just wanted to be able to join in, but alas 🙁

I speak conversational Spanish, close to fluent, as well as Chinese in addition to English. I think my next language to learn will probably be German or Polish, I'll probably start on one of those next year after my Chinese gets a little more solid.

I'm originally from Ukraine, so Russian. Can't write or read it, but speak fluently as most of my family doesn't know enough English to fully converse with me.

My native language is German. Besides that I speak English fluently and had 4 years of French in school, but never really used it and well honestly don't really like it, so I forgot most of it 🙂

I know a little bit of German. I took three years of German in high school before they cut it. Otherwise I would've had four years under my belt. I still remember a few phrases and words but not a lot. I wish I continued it, maybe one of these I'll try learning more.

The reason I decided to take German rather than Spanish (which everyone was taking and is now the only optional language to learn) was because heritage-wise I'm mostly German with a dash of Swedish and Danish.

I would love to learn Swedish and Danish because of my heritage. I would also love to learn Greek because I'm interested in the Greek culture, particularly Greek mythology.

i can speak french pretty well. i can read french and pick up on other people speaking french fairy well as log as they don't speak too fast.

i can speak some basic german, but have forgotten most of what i learnt. I can still make out some written German though if i have to.

I guess i would choose to learn Italian, being the country of romance, wine and fast cars!

Has anyone heard of this software, Rosetta Stone? I've seen ads for it claiming that it's the best way to learn new languages and that Fortune 500 companies and the US State Dept use it to train linguists. I'd love to learn Spanish, so if anyone knows if that shit's worth it, you should lemme know!

Ya see, I made the brilliant decision to learn Latin in high school -- which I promptly forgot after graduation. So, if the Pope does show up at my place asking for directions, there is only one phrase I remember from my classes:

'Mater tuus'

It means 'Your mom.'
