As the headline on

www.mlb.com.

Former Batting Champ and Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn Sr.. has passed away at the extremely young age of 54. I was outside when my friend Adam texted me this horrible news. Mr Gwynn was a wonderful player. He was taken far, far too soon.

R.I. P. Mr Gwynn.

Vin Scully read a tribute to him last night at Dodger Stadium before the game and also asked for a moment of silence.

Rest In Peace, Tony Gwynn.

Tony will be greatly missed throughout the sports world...and not just in baseball!!! One of the classiest acts ever and true "artist" with a bat!!!
Also...possibly one of the last to truly stay loyal to one team!!! (with my regards to Cal, Chipper, Derek and Mariano)

R.I.P. "Mr. Padre"

Sorry to hear it. A great ball player and he seemed to be a wonderful person.

An absoulte magacian with the bat. Wonderful ballplayer and a terrific human being.

As great a baseball player as Tony Gwynn was, I think he was a better human being. Rest in peace, Mr. Gwynn.
