A post by Jim Gardner about baseball's return, made me think about the first baseball game I attended.

It was the 1977 All Star Game, at the old Yankee Stadium, the week after the big NYC Blackout.

I was . 7. and I went with my father.. I remember it was a very hot night, and we didnt stay for the whole game, because I couldnt sit through a whole game at that age.

Jim Gardner, for those who dont know, grew up in NYC, and recounted his first game with his father, a Brooklyn Dodgers game at Ebbets Field, as a young boy.

His post got baseball fans discussing their first baseball game, which is what got me to think of this topic. That, and baseball's return.

I don't remember the exact date but I attended a Pirates game at Three Rivers Stadium where Barry Bonds hit 2 home runs for the Buccos.

I don't know the exact date, but it was at old Yankee Stadium in 1959 against the Detroit Tigers. The Yankee pitcher had a no-hitter broken up in the top of the ninth inning, but did pitch a shutout. I ate lots of hot dogs, as did my father. :hungry:

If I went to a baseball game as a kid I don't remember. I went to a Nats/Phillies game in 2012. It was the day that MCA of the Beastie Boys died. I got to see Strasburg pitch and the Nats won. I'm not a huge fan of baseball but I definitely would like to go to a game this year. Would love to go to a game on a weekday afternoon with a friend and just enjoy ourselves.

Are you sure it was the Detroit Tigers?

I checked out the 1959 Yankees schedule, and the only shutout of the Tigers (at Yankee Stadium) was August 5th, but there wasn't a no-no broken up in the 9th.

However, on the 4th of July in 1959, the Yankees did shutout the Washington Senators... who were being no-hit until breaking up Bob Turley's masterpiece in the 9th inning as you said!

Maybe that was the game?

Probably it was. I was likely not very interested in the identity of the visiting team as I was (even then) a fan of the National League. In my view, then as now, the only function of the American League is to provide an opponent to lose to the Dodgers in the World Series. They did that in 1959, the White Sox losing to the Dodgers in the World Series.

1997 at Tuner Field in Atlanta with my dad. I was seven years old and the stadium had just been opened. I saw the Braves play the Cardinals and the newly acquired Mark McGwire. Braves manager Bobby Cox was thrown out of the game (shocker) and Danny Bautista hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win it for the Braves! It was the best game I have ever been to! My mom still has a picture of me in all of my Braves gear from that one

Ironically the last major league game I have been to was 2012 at the Ted (nickname for Tuner Field.) It was the inaugural National League Wild Card game and the Braves lost on a botched infield fly rule. I am proud to say I did NOT throw any trash down onto the filed

One of my first Royals games was in 1979 when I was ten. The only reason I remember the game was that we were getting blown out by the Yankees 16-4 and Whitey Hertzog put in utility infielder Jerry Terrell to pitch in the late innings to save the bullpen.

He got a ground out and two fly outs on three pitches for an ERA of 0.00.

Summer 1978, Astros vs someone. Went with a group of us newly-hired yokels at a certain compnay. If I remember right, the Astros weren't doing too badly that year.

The summer of 1977 at the old Tigers Stadium I saw the Detroit Tigers vs. Oakland A's. I was 8 years old and we sat a few rows behind the Oakland dugout. We went early and Vida Blue gave me a baseball and signed it. Sadly I don't know where that ball is today.

July 10, 1980 at Shea Stadium with the Recreation Group from my town. The Mets beat the Pirates 2-0. Lee Mazzilli hit his 7th HR of the season.
