For those of you in the USA, what are your plans for July 4th?

Well who better than to asnwer first the me USATKLR to answer first.

On the fourth of July, The long awaited Vacation to SAN DIEGO CALIFORNIA, Will happen. And there i will be with KITTEN, GIGGLES32 ND THUDER. The FIRST MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY I HAVE MADE HERE.

And remember on the furth is not just BBQ's, booze and fireworks, Its about all we did to get our independance, and also it means we wish our brave soldier brothers and sisters overseas, to come home safe and sound.

HAPPY FOURTH FROM USA !!!!!

celebrating the birth of the nation by blowing up a small portion of it

Going out with a friend tomorrow night for dinner, not 100% sure yet what I'm doing Monday. I may go out to lunch, a movie, or the mall, or I might just stay home. I'm really not certain.

I will be playing in a 4th of July duplicate bridge tournament in White Plains, NY. 😀

I think staying home is highly underrated. I loooove staying home and often plan things only to enjoy canceling them so I can stay home! hehe For sure I'm one of the most hum drum individuals on this board. You all are probably out tickling people, tying em up and what knot. hehe But this year is the first year I've been back home in the USA and not arranged to do something on July 4. Maybe I will go with my parents (& sit in the back seat) to go see the fireworks display at our local univ. I'd like my sons to come. Maybe I can pay them to join us....na really they're ok kids, keep me laughing. (but NOT in the way you may think, considering the subject of this board!!!...we may live close to Tennessee, but not IN it)... Lawd, I'm bored.

Compare and Contrast........

......the fourth of july celebrations, with the recent celebrations this side of the pond for the Battle of Trafalgar.

All kinds of painfull political posturing has been in evidence in order to persuade the French and Spanish navies to take part in marking the 200th aniversary of Nelsons famous victory.

This was of course a total rout of the combined fleets of Spain and France by a smaller British force, both in simple numbers, and in terms of the size of the ships involved.

The result of this battle was that Napoleons plans to invade Britain were at an end, and a hundred years of British Naval supremecy were about to begin.

You may ask why we should bother to ask the French and the Spanish to turn up for such a celebration, or indeed why they agreed to attend.

One of the major events of the celebration was a mock battle representing the two fleets, who were designated as "Blue" and "Red" in order to avoid any embarrasement. Political posturing of the worst kind I would suggest.

I just wonder how all this kind of politically correct mincing about, would translate to the fourth of july celebrations?

Why dont we get an invite to your gig? how about staging a mock battle with two armies? lets call them, er, blue army and red army, just to save any unpleasantness? what do you think?

Yep, no bloody chance what so ever unless i am very mistaken!!!........so why are we bothering the kiss French and Spanish ass?
