Compare and Contrast........
......the fourth of july celebrations, with the recent celebrations this side of the pond for the Battle of Trafalgar.
All kinds of painfull political posturing has been in evidence in order to persuade the French and Spanish navies to take part in marking the 200th aniversary of Nelsons famous victory.
This was of course a total rout of the combined fleets of Spain and France by a smaller British force, both in simple numbers, and in terms of the size of the ships involved.
The result of this battle was that Napoleons plans to invade Britain were at an end, and a hundred years of British Naval supremecy were about to begin.
You may ask why we should bother to ask the French and the Spanish to turn up for such a celebration, or indeed why they agreed to attend.
One of the major events of the celebration was a mock battle representing the two fleets, who were designated as "Blue" and "Red" in order to avoid any embarrasement. Political posturing of the worst kind I would suggest.
I just wonder how all this kind of politically correct mincing about, would translate to the fourth of july celebrations?
Why dont we get an invite to your gig? how about staging a mock battle with two armies? lets call them, er, blue army and red army, just to save any unpleasantness? what do you think?
Yep, no bloody chance what so ever unless i am very mistaken!!!........so why are we bothering the kiss French and Spanish ass?
