I heard that Fred Berry died. I don't know how, or how old he was, since Yahoo works so well, but I do remember ol' Rerun had substance abuse problems in the past.
Pretty sad. He threw away a lucrative career, if I remember.

i seem to recall hearing on the news this morning that he was 53 years old.

i think he joins shirley at that big diner in the sky.

I heard 52 years old and he died of natural causes....although he was recently recovering from a stroke. "What's Happening" was a great show. I still remember all the stupid phrases they used every week:

"Hey, Hey, Hey!"
"Uh, Uuhhhhh"
"I Knoooooooooowwww"

It was a fun show, he was a fun guy...I think Fred Berry was incapable of frowning.
Shirley Hemphill died a few years ago, complications from Diabetes. Mabel King's dead, too.
Later, after the show was done, it was in...uh...(no pun intended) reruns, my cousin used to make a point of not missing the show, because he had a terrific crush on Heywood Nelson. He used to tense up when he appeared on the screen. My cousin was pretty much not only out of the closet when he was eighteen; he was prancing around the living room.

Roge, Dewayne and Rerun all recently made an appearnce in 'Dickie Roberts' at the end when all the child stars are singing the "We Are The World" type song......

What a shame!

Like Knox said, I don't remember him EVER frowning on the show. That was pretty amazing in itself considering the type of charactar he played.

Yeah, it's a shame he passed away. It would have been nice to see a reunion in the future
