Okay, for some reason I randomly ponder different and interesting bondage positions. As of late I've started thinking about different bondage ties. I'm into things that are eloquent and I think a bound body is beautiful. Bella introduced us to using colored rope on a model, which added additional color to the canvas.

I digress.

I've been pondering about braiding ties. For play or just modeling. And I don't know if it's been done? The idea I have involves binding a bottom's wrists together, with three pieces of rope and braiding them to a play collar's D rings. So whenever the lee tries to pull their arms away, they'll topple forward due to it being attached to the collar as well.

Meh. Is there any braided tie images out there? Or am I just thinking too much again.

I'm glad to see you thinking this way. 🙂 If only you weren't on the wrong coast.

In practical terms, genuine braided bondage is difficult to do - if by that you mean using multiple colors of rope on, say, a wrist tie and then braiding the free ends together. The braiding part is easy, but using multiple lengths of rope in a relatively small tie is difficult.

One does sometimes see multiple colors in a larger tie such as a body harness. And of course one can buy multicolored rope. 😉

Yes, there are two basic styles of rope construction: twisted and braided. A rope that has a spiral structure like a barber pole is twisted. Anything else is braided. Most of what we see in bondage today is braided nylon or polypropylene. Twisted hemp is the standard for Japanese-style bondage.

It's a different sort of braiding, though, than I believe Crystal is talking about.

They do good work. There's an interesting braided crotchrope there - a modular device that's meant to be made ahead of time and worked into a tie later. Something like that could also be used in the wrist-to-collar tie that Crystal mentioned in the OP.

BTW, the rope in that crotch-tie construction is of the braided type.

I'm referring to taking strands of rope and actually braiding them together. I think it would make a unique bondage hold. AND ITZ SO PRETTIEEE (Sorry. Had to have that girlie moment. 😉)

I've just not seen in around the websites that I go to. I wondered if it was even used much.

yes. take it from a sailor, there are many types of rope that are extremely strong yet thin and flexible. might be a little expensive though.

once again though this is coming back to you having an interest in something that is very close to japanese rope bondage. I've seen a lot of really gorgeous looking ties that has a lot of 'weaving' in the rope work around the body.

I'd say, go to your local hardware shop, and get yourself like 200' of braided rope, then cut them into several lengths, one 50' for the karada(rope dress) four 20' lengths, and the rest a bunch of 10' lengths and start playing around with it. Remember what Sex Luthor taught us about knotty bits

Well, yes and no.

First, thin rope tends to bite more than thicker rope, even in coils of equal width. So a tie built from many shorter pieces of thin line is likely to be less comfortable than one made with thicker line.

It would also be a bit of a challenge to get them all equally cinched (that is, tightened between the wrists). The best way I can think of would be to take the tails from the last section of rope around the entire group of coils, but that might look a bit messy. The numerous separate knots on each length will likely make the tie somewhat cluttered - which goes against your goal of making a pretty tie.

These considerations are the main reasons why this is seldom done. The best way I can think of to do this would be to use a separate braided length like the crotchrope linked earlier.
