True story. Our county workers were on strike recently and in some neighborhoods, folks had no garbage service for THREE WEEKS!
It's over now but a friend sent me this hysterical article that ran in my local paper. For some added fun, try coming up with some of your own and list them here!
This was in today's Sacramento Bee. Read this only if you want a laugh!

When life (and a county sanitation worker strike) gives you
garbage,
you make, um, something really great out of garbage.
Here are a few fun and useful suggestions for that ever-growing
heap.
1. Spread it on the lawn and make trash angels.
2. Get the neighborhood together for a scavenger hunt.
Literally.
3. Build a fort. Why not?
4. Let your inner artist free. Make a lovely lawn sculpture.
5. Roll yourself a late-summer snowman. Carrot nose already
included.
6. Pile it against the house and hope it'll provide heat through
December.
7. Treat your kid to a new pet. Maggots are the new hamster.
8. Pile it up and play trash Jenga.
9. Slow down traffic with new, homemade speed bumps.
10. Organize a neighborhood trash-and-field meet with garbage-bag
discus and old-head-of-cabbage shot put.
11. Become the world's foremost expert on antique banana peels.
12. UPS it to your ex. That's what Brown can do for you.
13. Finally build that fence between you and your nosy neighbor.
14. Climb inside your impromptu compost pile and sweat it out. Best
Diet Ever.
15. Practice catching flies with chopsticks as a means to inner
strength. It worked for Mr. Miyagi.
16. Make a trash-bag igloo.
17. Fill in your pool. You won't need it until next year, anyway.
18. Wait for the eventual seagulls, close your eyes and pretend you
have oceanfront property.
19. Strew it on the ground beneath your windows as burglar
deterrent.
20. See how well that garbage disposal really works.
