OK people I came back from seeing G.I. Joe and I must say it is a real indulgence for you action lovers. I in particular loved this film for it mindless action it has. Of course there are people who gonna dislike this film and I won't blame you. I strongly feel though they did what transformers failed to do which is develop character *FOR EACH MEMBER* of the G.I. joe team that was pretty cool. I am not gonna give too much away, I think it was money well spent. I sequel is a must and HEAVY HEAVY re-design on the commander. So yeah two and a half stars. Not the greatest but again never to be taken seriously from the start. Now for my rant on District 9. I personally think it is gonna be the greatest science fiction this year (even better then star trek). WHy cause it is a smart film with an original base which I am still flipping out on that part in itself :bugeyed:. But my complaint is from the people who were constantly calling it or comparing it to cloverfield. Mind you I love cloverfield but c'mon people I fail to see the relationship and the reason being was cause of the handheld camera view...... -_-. Anyways it is coming out next friday I am gonna go see it alone or with someone either way. SO keep cool tmf people.

Thx Jackalx33 for your feedback. 🙂

I'm also looking forward to see D'9

I hear I'm missing a giant swingin' set o' robot balls!! But I can do without that. 😀

I saw GI Joe opening night. I had low expectations for it, but it's my favorite childhood cartoon, so I basically had to. It was not quite as bad as I'd feared, but given all the negative publicity surrounding it, that's not saying much. I was expecting it to be a disaster of Battlefield Earth proportions and ended up with something that was just another over the top summer action film.

A couple of the action sequences were actually pretty good (especially the chase through Paris), but that's about the most that can be said. I'm not going to get into departures from the cartoon/comic book, because that's sort of pointless, there's always differences in film adaptations. My main problem with the film was that it was basically a live action video game. Transformers was lousy, but at least the filmmakers took the material seriously and made a legitimate attempt to render this stuff on screen as it would be if it actually existed in the real world. GI Joe made absolutely no such attempt (and it wasn't helped by the fact that their effects budget was clearly a lot less than Transformers).

Well, that and every time Cobra Commander was onscreen, I kept wondering to myself why he sounded like Darth Vader.

All in all, it wasn't quite the gang raping of my childhood memories I feared it would be; but it was still pretty ridiculous.

Yeah man I get what your saying. In all honesty though I will go with G.I. Joe over the second transformers cause again In G.I. joe they made everyone on the team have a purpose.

Go see "Moon." It may change your opinion on what should be considered the best sci-fi movie of the year... but maybe not. You should still see it though.

ACK I TOTALLY OVER LOOK THAT FILM!! The trouble is I can not find any theaters that are playing that movie. I am gonna check that out too. I might have exaggerated with the best sci-fi of the year but I am just hype for the originality of the films which is rare these days.

I had to go an hour away to see Moon, but it was well worth it. I'm looking forward to District 9. The concept is great, and so far the reviews look good. If they hold up to above 70% on rottentomatoes, I'll definitely go see it, if not I'll wait for the DVD.

Did you see Sunshine? It was a lesser known sci-fi film from a couple years ago, but very awesome. I love the secluded, atmospheric, lonely feeling sci-fi films like Alien, 2001, Moon, Sunshine, etc.

Yeah man and yes sunshine sadly sadly over looked and is better then most disaster movies we get. and dude nice taste btw!

i live on long island and can not find a theater within 50 miles of me that has it

dammit

"District 9" - no doubt, this puppy will kick some major ass. and, to boot, "It Might Get Loud" coming out in the same weekend might just make this the best release weekend of the Summer '09 schedule. pete
