I will not even attempt to describe my joy at the Dodgers' come-from-behind victory last night in a marathon decisive game five of the NLDS against the Nationals in their home park.
I say "marathon" because the game, although only the usual nine innings with a normal final score (7 runs total by both teams), lasted FOUR HOURS and 32 MINUTES. Not unrelated to this fact: 13 pitchers were used, 6 by the Dodgers and 7 by the Nationals.
Worth noting:
Hitting
Joc Pederson got his first post-season home run to tie the game at 1-1.
Carlos Ruiz had a pinch hit RBI single to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.
Justin Turner got a clutch triple with two outs and two on to extend that lead to 4-1.
Fielding
Andrew Toles had a key outfield assist, ending an inning by throwing to Seager who nailed Werth at home plate by a big margin.
Pitching
Kenley Jansen made more pitches (51) than ever before in his major league career, getting 7 outs (also a new maximum)--all three outs in the seventh inning, all three outs in the eighth inning, and the first out in the ninth inning.
Clayton Kershaw, on one day's rest after starting game 4 on short rest itself and throwing 110 pitches in game 4, came in to get the last two outs in bottom of the ninth inning, for the first save of his major league career.
A historic game. A game for the ages.
