This pic is about the truth.

At the price of gas nowdays, makes me glad that I can't drive [due to health].

People in Europe are paying twice as much for gas as we are, so why the complaints? Besides, look on the bright side, it'll lessen the amount of SUV's on the road after a while. Then there will be more gas for everyone.

In norway the price is 7.50 USD per gallon atm. Crazy prices.

You are joking right? Gas prices in Europe are higher because the demand is far lower than in the US. The United States has a low population density compared with most countries. Transportation is a necessity here, thus an increased supply, and demand, which ought to lead to lower prices. The fact that the price here is over $3.00 a gallon is practically a crime.

The only reason the US has lower gas prices is because our currency is the World Reserve. Once that is over, we will see hyperinflation and prices looking a lot like that in Europe.

The cost of petrol is high in Europe because of the taxes we pay and Americans don't pay. We are paying €1.62 per litre (about €6.13 per gallon). Of that, 32c is VAT. Carbon charge and excise amounts to just under 59c. Subtract those from a litre and you get €0.71 per litre (€2.69 per gallon). In the US you are averaging $0.34 in taxes per gallon. That leaves an average price before taxes of $3.66 per gallon for the US, compared to $3.53 per gallon here. It's all about taxes at the pump and the high exchange rate of the Euro compared to the dollar.

@MrTickleFeet, My SUV is a four cylinder. Not every SUV is a gas hog. QED
