Gender roles is not for single people

So I was having a discussion with a guy I knew about his idea of gender roles and how some guys and girls think that taking care of the house is some how frowned upon because of this idea of the home is for women and work place is for men. Well I have lived alone for awhile and I can say I have cleaned my apartment, cooked for myself and worked 40 hours a week to pay for rent. So I was wondering if the gender role argument is just for people who don't like doing house work and would rather live sloppy or just want to be paid for everything they do and doing things for free like cleaning is some how degrading.

The idea that there's a gender attached to taking care of the home is an ancient one that has no use in the modern world.

Ten thousand years ago, when providing for the family was physically dangerous, it was something the males would do because they're generally bigger and stronger. Also women wouldn't really be available for learning to hunt and fight, because they were busy staying pregnant because life was short and brutal and you had to constantly produce more people to make up for the ones who were dying on the hunt, or from disease, starvation, or other bad fortune.

Today, either gender can provide equally well, and instead of having to constantly stay pregnant and produce children, women are available to work.

So in a modern, contemporary context, I can't imagine any way in which gender has anything to do with housekeeping.

I don't know anybody who loves to clean (vacuum, dust, mop, scrub the toilet, et cetera).
People I know who can afford it hire somebody to come in and clean, any where from once a week to one a month.
People I know who can't afford it either clean their own homes or live like slobs. (I know some of each type.)
It is grossly unfair, if you are half of a couple, to put all the cleaning tasks onto the other half.

Yeah no one loves cleaning really except people with psychological issues lol. That said, leaving things a mess is disgusting. Somehow I manage to work 40-50 hours a week cooking and cleaning and still keep the house decent. Life is too hard for some people I guess

I do find it interesting the number of men VS women type posts you seem to make.

For sure, given the gender strain of eternity, a 21st century woman (who's had misfortune of say, losing a job) won't have a hard time becoming a housewife again. I don't know if unfortunate times would make it easier for an egotistical man to become a full-time houseband.

Well it seems to be part of the new social media now-a-days. Its more of women vs. men though. Such as "rape-culture", "slut-shaming" or "man-spreading." I'm interested in hearing different opinions on certain subjects circling in and out of the internet. Unfortunately most have to do with men vs. women.

Such as I just seen a news report of this British couple ( I think they were British; they had the accents) dressing their young boy in both gender clothing. He goes shopping with them and they let him pick out what he wants to wear whether it be a girl's dress or boy's pants and he wears what he feels like that day. That interests me because I am curious how it going to effect him, society and how society deals with it.

There is also the case of trans-genders using public bathrooms associated with their chosen identity as opposed to the gender they originally born with. I thought that's what these posts are about..questions and answers or opinions. So I post my questions and ask for an answer or opinion. Its just an interest of mine at the moment since its part of social media now.

As for this post...in my opinion..gender roles doesn't exist when you are required to do both work and keep your house decently clean. As I said, if you are single and in your own place does "gender-role" really exist or is it just some people trying to make it a men vs. women thing. I think they are making it that way on the fact of marriages of the past or what we all saw on tv. As a man I can tell you I think its ridiculous for anyone to say...OH that's women's work.

Gender roles exist if you let them. Not just if you live alone or not or use facebook or not. Some people like them, cool good for them, but you can only put up with what you allow. Honestly, I just live my life and I don't think about that shit unless I feel like I've been treated some type of way because of my gender. And while that happens, it's not so often for me to really waste much time being bothered by it.

I get that you find gender issues interesting, I just know it doesn't take much to spark a flame war here and the last thing that's needed is a battle of the sexes. Ask Slaver

Manspreading is annoying af though. Lol seriously dudes need to learn to sit without their legs taking up 3 spots on the bus haha

Well they need to change the name then..to general discussion to general wars...lol

3 spots is a bit too much ......guys don't spread that far. (maybe a few jerks) but closing our legs can be uncomfortable. take a tennis ball and put it in between your legs and close them (kinda how it feels.) I have seen guys sit with their legs over the other like females sometimes sit..don't ask me how they do that without being uncomfortable.
Men have been sitting like this for generations and just wondering why now its intrusive? hmmmm interesting.

Aaaand, we're there. An argument over manspreading.

I think it's impolite to take up more room than necessary on public transit man or woman. If sitting in your seat versus multiple seats is an issue, stand. Applies to both genders but I don't see females with their legs spread wide af. It is hardly a serious issue though. More of a funny pet peeve. You need to relax yo lol Get a better hobby than wasting time obsessing over every nominal thing said about men ever and trying to blow it out of proportion

As an analogy, you mean it is also ridiculous to say that the images below are man’s work?

well women spreading their legs wide would probably invite some unwanted stares..or maybe some wanted stares.

Well since most of the things I mentioned has been seen on news reports, magazines, and news papers..I say we are already there. I guess its along the lines of breast feeding out in public. You are right...not really important and blown way out of proportion, but I digress.

Female welders who aren't aware that they are pregnant or are currently lactating... Exposure to lead has very bad impact on maternal health. But basically men won't easily hire women for such male-dominated jobs and it has nothing to do with feminism or other fancy dogma.

Welders aren't usually exposed to lead....it would vaporize at welding temperatures, and be useless in the end product. Lead is more found in solder, a much lower-temperature beast (with little vaporization, but not to be ignored).

I feel like the news wants to get good ratings and so you hear about shit like Kim Kardashian having a baby and such.

What exactly is news to you? To me, it's not things like this which are reported on to further incite anger and divide people.

What you're doing here is what the media does on a broader scale.

As for the public bathroom thing, unless safety is the issue, there's really no reason for gender specific bathrooms. If I have to risk sitting on a pee covered toilet because some rude jackass missed then so can the women sitting next to me.

Seriously though, I think you've touched on a power dynamic where the people who do the labeling do so to maintain control. When we're immersed in our own culture we don't see it so easily. I just read a story today about another women being stoned to death because of adultery. From an outsider looking in, the power dynamic is clear as day.

Of course there are many people, women included, who accept the traditional gender roles. If it works for them, great. However, how we see ourselves is heavily influenced on how society sees us. Like I said, it's not easy to see from the inside looking out.

We'll never get rid of our own opinions on what is masculine and feminine but we can try not put such a large importance on it for how we see others. Let everyone self identify - clean, cook, figure skate, play football, love who and how you want and everything else in between!

As a intelligent woman you should know that news is news regardless of its virility. I am merely making a statement of my opinion. As always I look at others opinions too. However, if you want to accuse me of dividing and inciting anger. I can't stop anyone from being emotional; I can only state the obvious or not so obvious. For instance, Do you support "freeing the nipple?" or "slut-shaming?" The idea that women are able to dress how they want or not at all. If you oppose it....well you are now causing divide to women that want it. If you don't care, well you still can be considered dividing without support. As for more time on my hands...well I am not into selfies.

I think the problem is when it becomes a gender thing and somehow the rules must be changed to accommodate the person unable to meet the required standards of living.

I'm saying these arent even news or important. A lot of it is for ratings or click bait. Manspreading and freeing the nipple are not news in my opinion. War, politics, natural disasters, etc - that's news. The other stuff, that's just the media trolling.

Starting threads like these definitely has the potential to cause heated arguments because it's worded in a way that pins one group against the other.

I don't know you but I'll assume you're intelligent enough to see that
