It's World Cup Soccer!
Despite a loss to Germany on Thursday. The American team finished second in Group G thanks to a victory by Portugal over Ghana, which assured the U.S. team’s four points were enough to advance.
Thomas Müller’s goal in the 55th minute gave the Germans a 1-0 victory,
however that result, coupled with Portugal’s 2-1 win over Ghana, left the Americans in second place with a 1-1-1 record in Group G, the so-called Group of Death.
That is good enough for Team USA to qualify for the round of 16, where they will probably meet Belgium.
How Germany won!
Their goal came after a corner kick resulted in a header from Per Mertesacker that Howard did well to punch away. The rebound carried to the edge of the area, where Müller was waiting. He drove the ball hard along the grass and true – no chance for Howard to stop it.
