So, when my new girlfriend (who is unbelievably ticklish) was little, her dad used to tickle torture her a lot. He would tickle her for minutes at a time, sometimes until her mom made him stop. She is super ticklish and was little, so she was helpless, to the point where it sometimes made her feel sick.

Here's my question: I know dads tickle kids a lot, and that's innocent. But to torture her to that point seems cruel - why would a dad do that to his little girl? I'm sure there are some control issues there, etc, but anyone have any thoughts about this?

I think she may have inflated the events a little. Not saying she's lying or anything it might be that she might have blown the situation outa porportion. If it is in fact true that her father tickle tortured her, well who knows. Best thing to do if your interested is to figure out if her father "tickle tortures" anyone else, if they are minors.

Is she turned off by it now? Most people that go through that kind of torture, and I use the word torture because it couldn't have been fun for her if she was getting sick from it, hate to be tickled later in life. My last g/f hated it because her brothers used to pin her down and tickle her.

I would hate to think a parent would abuse a child like that. Maybe he just didn't know when to stop?

I beg to differ. My uncle used to tickle the shit out of me (often to the point where I'm screaming and near crying) and I hated it for a number of years after that. Now it's a fetish. I still blame him for it.

I don't like it when parents do it -- maybe a ticklish poke, but leave it at that. A lot of people think it's playful, I think, and affectionate and often don't know when they're taking it too far. phfttklr had it right. 🙂
