OK, to answer the question at the beginning of the thread: It's because of all the reasons stated in the thread so far PLUS the fact that in our culture it is normal for men to approach women, and then women pick which one they want, not the other way around. So, when a male calls out for any mate, none of the female seems courted, as they are used to men doing the rituals of seduction to be intrigued. With men, it's the other way around: the female gives out a mating call, and they all compete to be the 'alpha' male, the one she picks.
The property mentioned above can be quite useful to us men, if you want to stay single. You are much less likely to get approached by a girl than a girl is likely to be approached by a guy. Therefore, guys don't have to turn girls down on a regular basis, which is great! All hail being single!
