Good Morning,

My husband and I are going to Ireland for our honeymoon in 3 weeks! (Can't believe I can finally say that as we have been planning this trip for a year.) We will be there for 2 weeks and are going to Dublin, Sligo, Galway, Limerick, Killarney, and Kilkenny with multiple stops in-between those places.

I know it's a long shot, but I figured I'd post here to see if anyone has been to Ireland and would have any helpful tips or tricks for us. Any must-see places in the country or any tips on what to pack- we are all ears!

Thank you! 😀

Congratulations to the both of you! I'm from Dublin and have lived in Galway a bit, but don't know too much about the rest of the country (I really should explore more!).
  • Pack for both heavy rain and blistering sunshine. It's usually one or the other.
  • You'll need to rent a car for anywhere outside Dublin. It's a small country, but travelling from place to place is terrible with public transport.
  • Dublin, on the other hand, is a nightmare to drive near, but it's small enough to walk everywhere.
  • Dublin is expensive, though! Temple Bar is the "party centre" of the city and is generally a terrible place for anyone who isn't part of a stag or hen party.
  • The south side of the city is the older and nicer part of the city (the city is split by the river). So you'll generally find a lot of the museums, old buildings and better bars and restaurants around there.
  • The DART is the communter train that goes North/South through the city. On the North end are Malahide and Howth villages which are nice small picturesque places to see. And on the South end you have Bray and Greystones, which are also quite nice. For public transport you can get a Leap card from vending machines in the DART stations that you can use on the DART and buses.
  • I recommend an open top bus tour of Dublin to see the sights. But make sure you get one with a guide on board and not one that just plays a tape. The tapes just give the facts, while the tour guides are usually locals who can be very entertaining.
  • In the West, you definitely want to see the Cliffs of Moher.
  • You can Google the "Wild Atlantic Way" for a list of spots along the West coast that you may want to visit. I assume you've already got accomodation organised, so you can guage what spots are near you.
  • It's the same in all countries, but take your time driving on country roads. The locals are maniacs when they are driving and most would have no issues with driving home drunk from the pub.
If I can think of anything else, I'll add it! 🙂

I think everything was covered in the last response but I’ll make two recommendations while you’re in Dublin. If either of you are coffee or tea drinkers, grab a cup at Bewley’s on Grafton Street. Not only is it good coffee and tea but it’s a nice looking cafe. Lastly if you’re in the mood, get a sourdough scone there as well. Also if you’re in the mood for pizza stop at Pi there’s two locations I believe and it was rated the 7th best pizzeria in the entire European Union. Enjoy your trip!

Let us know how the trip worked out! Hoping you and your hubby have lots of good food and good times!

My stepfather once took a trip to Ireland but he absolutely hated it as he does NOT eat meat of anykind and therefor all he could eat there were salads.
