Okay I think we are in desperate need for one of these.. lol

I don't know if we have one but we do now, Plus I need more books to read, i just finshed my last one.

So what books would you recommend to someone?

I would recommend Star by Pamela Anderson (she's actually a good writer)
4 blondes by Candice Bushnell

and Are you there vodka? It's me, chelsea. By Chelsea Handler

Well, I suppose books are a matter of personal taste, but here goes...

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (all 5 parts of the trilogy. Yeah, that's not a typo.)
Brain Droppings by George Carlin
The Real Frank Zappa Book
The Bus by Jerome Bettis
The Rise and Fall of ECW

The best really deep book that I read recently was Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro, who is actually a British author despite his name.

It's impossible to describe what it's about without giving away the central mystery, but it's one of the most disturbing and bittersweet books that I've ever read. I was completely captivated from the moment I started reading it.

The basic premise is, it's about a young girl raised in a strange orphanage, preparing for the day when she will become a "carer" and eventually a "donor." As the reader you don't know what those things are, and it's only revealed in gradual slices, over the course of the entire story. But there's a darkness hovering over the fate of the main character, like an impending storm, that gives those two words a disturbing context.

A Song of Ice and Fire by Georege Martin. By the time it's done, it may be the best epic fantasy series ever written (and yes, I'm counting LOTR in that list). There's quite a few things that are brilliant about it, but what's so amazing is how it breaks virtually every convention in the genre. The fantasy elements are largely kept in the background. All the main characters have extremely complex motivations. Most of them are, at best, highly flawed. Nobody's overtly good or evil. Nobody is safe (main characters can die with no warning). And the sex and violence quotient is off the charts (not essential, but always entertaining if done well).

I reccommend anything written by Chuck Klosterman and Jeff Pearlman.

Thier books are witty, insightful and undeniably brilliant (and 'crazy'.)

A Child Called It.

Running with Scissors.

The Midnite Cafe.

The fucking Gossip Girls series.. Yeah. I have Every fucking one. 😀

Anything by Dave Barry

Anything by Torey L. Hayden, especially One Child

Diary of a Wimpy Kid and it's sequel Rodrick Rules. They look like children's books but trust me they're hilarious for adults 🙂

Anything by the late great David Foster Wallace, especially A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again

I'll think of about 2000 more :cat:

I'm re-reading Eaters of the Dead, since Micheal Crichton passed away I thought it only fitting. It's the re-telling of the Beowulf tale with the protagonists being a remnant tribe of neanderthals instead of trolls. A few years back it was adapted into The 13th Warrior with Antonio Banderas.

Dave Pelzer

A Child Called "It"

The Lost Boy

And there is one more, but I can't think of the name of it.

Read these books a few years back and feel that everyone should read them!

I just finished reading "L.A. Confidential" by James Ellroy, and I highly recommend it.

Might not be up your alley based on your recommendations ... but if you have seen the movie, you have an idea how good the book is ... and the book is completely different and 100% better than the movie.

Be ready for 50s police corruption/brutality, mob ties, the dark side of porn, drugs, and deception.

So good!

I'm reading Lessons in Liberty, by Bob Barr (2008 Libertarian Candidate for Presidency). I haven't finished, but so far I'm finding it very informative and humorous. He gives you a good inside look at what goes on in Washington, and brings out a lot of the humor in it. 🙂

There really are so many good books out there. It really depends on how deep you want to go. Here are a few that I have enjoyed over the course of the last few years.

The Alchemist by Paul Coelho
The Prophet by Khalil Gibran
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

Check some of them out if you want to!

Anything by Bentley Little. House, The Resort, University, The Store, The Academy.

"The Looking Glass Wars" & "Seeing Redd" by Frank Beddor. If you loved "Alice in Wonderland", you'll love these books.

"The Watchmen" by Alan Moore. Yes, it is a comic book, but it is so amazing.
