I just read that Art Carney, co-star of the Honeymooners TV show, passed away Sunday. He was 85 years old and had apparently been suffering from a long term illness.

Man, I still chuckle whenever I see him in those old reruns.

I still remember a lot of the classic lines Art Carney had as Ed Norton:

After ironing Ralph's shirt and ruining it:
Ralph: "Norton, is this your idea of a joke?"
Norton: "No Ralph, that's my idea of a burn!"

The Golf episode where Norton "addresses the ball":
Norton: "Approach the ball, plant your feet firmly...HELLO BALL!"

Same episode after Norton gives Ralph a pincusion to golf with:
Ralph: "Hey, there's pins in here!"
Norton: "Whatd'ya expect to be in a pincushion? Chicken Noodles?"

HARTFORD, Conn. (Nov. 11) - Art Carney, who played Jackie Gleason's sewer worker pal Ed Norton in the TV classic ''The Honeymooners'' and went on to win the 1974 Oscar for best actor in ''Harry and Tonto,'' has died at 85.

Carney died in Chester, Conn., on Sunday and was buried on Tuesday after a small, private funeral. He had been ill for some time.

The comic actor would be forever identified as Norton, Ralph Kramden's bowling buddy and not-too-bright upstairs neighbor on ''The Honeymooners.'' The characters appeared in various forms from 1951 to 1956, and the show was revived briefly in 1971. The shows can still be seen on cable.

With his turned-up porkpie hat and unbuttoned vest over a white T-shirt, Carney's Ed Norton with his exuberant ''Hey, Ralphie boy!'' became an ideal foil for Gleason's blustery, bullying Kramden. Carney won three Emmys for his role and his first taste of fame.

I will truly miss this guy. 🙁 He and the Stooges - my childhood comic idols.

(Norton to Cramden in a Honeymooners sketch🙂

"Ralph, maybe that's your problem... you've got a split personality! ... Like you're two people."

*after a pause, he glances at Cramden's belly*

"You're big enough to be three people!"

I just heard about this yesterday. Well, Mr, Carney lived a long, good life. Those Honeymooners episodes are great. I remember watching those original 39 shows over and over when they used to run on 11 Alive. My favorite part was always when Ralph would throw Norton out of his apartment.

i was sad and melancholy at this news. i liked Art quite a bit, but even more so, i feel like a special innocence is also gone. when you would watch those old honeymooner episodes, you could just feel the enthusiasm and good times that the cast shared with each other. things were simpler, and it showed.

i hope he and jackie are driving golfballs from cloud to cloud, on a perfect, endless spring day.

I just purchased a DVD collection of the Honeymooner's.I love it.Now to me that was comedy.Rest in peace, you made us all laugh and brought smiles to many..thanks Art.

:atom: Kindness we all need to try it:atom:

Man, he was great!

RALPH: "We are not friends anymore. I don't wanna look at you, I don't want to speak to you. When you see me in the street, move to the other side."
ED: "When you walk on the street, there ain't no other side!"

They certainly don't make them like they used to. TV shows today just can't compare.
