whew, made it!
First off, I hope you came out okay JoBelle, and everyone else in this area. Ths was the biggest storm since Andrew in 1992. When it was in the gulf, it was supposed to be stronger than Andrew, Lili was a category 4. It weakened to a category two when it hit land, which was a miracle. Not many houses were damaged, but a lot of power lines and trees snapped. My house had mainly broken branches and broken fences. We just got electricity and cable yesterday. I got stung by a horde of yellow jackets on my face when I went behind a shed to pull some branches that fell down from the oak trees. That hurt like hell! I ventured back out with a can of Raid, and showed them who's boss. But I didn't see many when I went back out, so maybe they showed me who's boss....
I stayed in Lafayette, because they evacuated Iberia Parish and everything below, something that has never been done before. That's how bad this thing was supposed to be. I left late, and the roads and highways were nearly empty. It was like we were fleeing an invading army, which I may discuss in another thread. There were several tornado touchdowns in the area, and an 18 wheeler crashed on I10 because of the hurricane force winds, trapping people in the storm. I don't know how many or if anyone died, I haven't been able to watch the news for a while. (Bush is giving a big speech on Iraq Monday, and I just heard about it!) That's wierd. Which starts another thread.....
