Heya there everyone, um sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, but I never post that much anyways yeah ^^; heh, anyways, I was wondering if anyone might be up for an art challenge of drawing my character Taberu, he's part of a species I created called Behemothaens, very large, gentle giants, but very sensitive feet so they are quite ticklish.

Now I say furryish just because of his body design, I got the ideas for his body structure from watching One Piece and seeing Monster Point Chopper's body (just google and you'll see what I mean 😛 ) and using the FMA's Alexander/Nina chimera's face and eye design. Still anyways just explain why I put furry in there, since ya might need some skill in drawing muzzles XD

I put the two pics I have of him in this post in the attachements below, and so you know if you look at the sketch, he's not really THAT big, sort of a mis-understanding in the height differental, he's 30ft tall, but for a normal sized person you'd come up to his ankle or mid-way up his shin.

Alright well I hope this is enough, drop me a PM or post here if your interested in trying to draw him, so long as its not sexual or rough, I'm good with him in scenerio or just drawings :3 And if you want to learn more about him and his kind, just ask away and I'll give you as much details as you need.

You'll have better luck (read: any at all) if you'll add these magic words to your request:

I'm willing to pay your full commission rates.

Nobody's saying that your idea isn't good, or that you aren't worth doing things for, but the artists are talented people who feel that they deserve something in return.

Yeah, urm... thats my issue really *pokes my fingers together some* I don't have any cash on me >.<; I mean, I'd gladly trade stories or pay if I could, just due to personal issues at home, I can't pay :/

Also, I'm thinking nobody is that interested in my character, just from responses on other sites.

I think the money issue has far more to do with it. People are willing to do a service for you, only not for free. My beloved is a cartoonist and she's exactly that way: Want something done? Sure, but it'll cost you!

I myself am an author and can honestly say that stories-for-pictures is a losing proposition for them. The old proverb says that a picture is worth a thousand words, but I can type a thousand words in perhaps half the time that it would take her to go from sketch to completed product in The Shop. Perhaps in this day and age, a picture is worth two thousand words, hm?

There's also the difference in what's needed. To write a story, you need three things: mastery of the language you're writing in; a clear idea of your story, and a direction in how it and the characters will develop; and a knack for storytelling. Now, that last one is pretty rare for many writers on the Internet I feel. They have heart and dedication, but they just don't quite have the knack for bringing the reader into the story, and as such their works fall flat. Still, the point remains that anybody who can read and write is able to well... Write.

Just to name a few things, an artist however must master the elements of visual arts, be proficient in the use of their medium and tools, and be mindful of balancing however much realism is in their art with what is attractive (A realistic bottom is not as attractive as an idealized one, obviously.) Add to this the fact that many artists nowadays work in disparate mixed media. La mia bella for instance sketches everything onto paper, then scans it. That way she can redraw everything in the Shop. This is how she's able to produce animation cel-quality foreground images.

Her backgrounds would add even more work if she decided to start making them look cel-perfect as well, as she would need to learn digipainting... And probably need to get Corel's excellent Painter software, which like Photoshop, costs many hundreds of dollars.

There's another issue in the value equation. A properly-equipped artist will need to spend far, far more than a writer. You can go to a thrift store and find a typewriter or word processor, or even use a pencil and paper for your manuscript. For what she does, La Violetta uses a $2000 quad-core desktop computer with a 20" LCD display that will cost nearly $750 to replace with another pro-quality display. Add to that her digitizer which will run you $350 or so for one of usable size. The software adds even more! Her weapon of choice is Adobe Photoshop CS3, which is upwards of $800. If she were to start working on digital painting, she may want to grab Corel Painter, which is around $450.

In closing, I'd just like to reiterate that I believe it's not that people dislike your character or idea, it's just that giving away free art doesn't seem to add up for them!

Huh, never really thought of it that way, but I suppose that doesn't add much to my favor does it :/ and I agree on the story-for-art trade thing *sighs* Well, hopefully I might find someone on here whom might be up for the challenge of drawing my Behemothaen, I have alot on him, I mean story wise and such. But I suppose the the search is still on though.
