I agree Jim taking the test on Taxi the the final scene of Newhart are among the greats.

Then there's Fonzie jumping the shark on Happy Days, which I agree is television at its worst and evidence for those who dimiss the medium. Of all the long-running success of mediocre programs, that of Happy Days mystifies me like few others.
