This scene was originally going to be very different from what you see here. The initial idea was a setup where the girl hanging from the chain was being used as a sacrifice to some kind of horrible Lovecraftian monster full of tentacles—very much in the style of the 2001 movie “Dagon”—except in this case the monster feeds on laughter. 😉
I actually had the monster all ready to go, but trying to pose each tentacle exactly the way I wanted was an absolute nightmare… and I gave the creature eight of them. After spending 40 minutes unsuccessfully trying to position the first one, I tossed the creature into the scrap drawer in case I ever feel like tackling it again, and repurposed everything else into what you see here.
