Happy meals gone sad

Later this year, the goverment will be abolishing Halloween. Seems kids are getting way too fat on candy and steps must be taken to aliviate this.

Can we expect similar protest like the ones in Arizona...?

Or can we expect longer lines in neighboring city's fast-food chains...?

I'm goint to have to pick the second choice. 😀

They aim their advertising at kids, though; some adults have little enough control 🙁

Grinch here -- yeah, I know, big surprise 😛

But I have to go with the banning --- McDonald's already has been using
kids characters, Ronald the clown, there were the Hamburgler & others I can't remember... I wonder if those were banned since

a massive % of children are obese now and developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and these CLOWNS have the audacity to ask for money for "RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE..." Sure, aggressively promote the worst deep-fried crap for decades and then act like you're doing humanity a favor.... good bizniz :disgust:

I've heard they employ child PSYCHOLOGISTS to aim their marketing at kids ---- they use the brightest colors already to attract ALL ages....

(so adults like me can get fat too.... :eeew: ) It's already too easy & too attractive though I prefer other fast food joints when I give in ---

I know, it's fun when everyone has self-control and it's just a treat, but...
the parents don't seem to have enough sense.

The kids then want EVERY toy so you have to go several times
and try DIFFERENT McDonalds ---- How many times a week?

To borrow that line from some sitcom:

Mommy moommmy MOM maaaaaaammmy mommy mother ma MA WAIT WE'RE PASSING IT --- MAHHHMMMMM.... we HAVE TA GO THERE TO COLLECT ALLLLL THE HAPPY MEAL FIGURES!!!! :veryhappy MAAAAAAA!!!!

Someone here --- I'm forgetting who ---- had an EXCELLENT McDonald's picture in his siggie ----- something about (they really want your soul....)
showing a HUUUUGE FAT smirking Ronald McDonald with horns ---- next to the slim smiling clown who looks so innocent, inviting and child-friendly....

I'd say they want your bankbook, and they take your body along with it. :disgust:

BUT --- I must say, "Capt. Ron," you DO look smashing in a
Mickey D buccaneer's outfit 😀

The blame should rest solely on the parents. Yeah, it's aimed at kids, but the parents should grow a backbone and actually tell their kids "NO".

Growing up, going to McDonald's or any fast food restaurant happened about maybe twice a month when we'd go get groceries and were on our way home. It was a treat that wouldn't happen if we misbehaved or whined or begged for it.

Nowadays, many parents have become way too lazy, preferring to get something quick than actually take the time to cook a healthy meal. Sometimes, yes, you don't have the time and you want something quick, but having fast food every single night of the week or every single mealtime during the day is pure laziness.

You have got to be kidding me! Damn man what is the world coming too! This is what government does with taxpayers money! The country is in crisis but hey. Lets make happy meals illegal! That would be a good way to help the economy! Idiots!

Nemesis! I agree! Something like this should be a treat! Not a daily meal!

This. Every single word of it!

Everyone screams about government controlling our lives right? But if you don't exercise self control someone may do it for you. So here's a novel plan for those who need to hear it; be a parent and not your kids' buddy and stop punking out!

It was a rare treat to eat at McDonalds when I was growing up. My children went to fast food restaurants OCCASIONALLY as they were growing up. I know what I put in the food I cook and can't account for what these places do. A lot of what's going on there isn't real food anyway; did you know that Arby's roast beef comes in a liquified form? Once it's heated, it becomes roast beef! I wouldn't eat that if my life depended on it! Gives new meaning to the term "mystery meat" doesn't it?

one calafornia town has banned happymeals. Now this is going a little to far whats next geez

It wasn't a town, it's a city 😛 calling it a california town makes it sound like it's a very small place.. and it's not just the city, it's all of Santa Clara county. And for one, I think it's stupid. Parenting should be for the parents, not the government. If the parents are screwing up it's their fault.. the government doesn't have the right to tell them wha they can and can not eat. And aparently 87% of the residents agree with me but of course the government does what they want without listening to the people. I don't know why people speak up about things when the government has already made up their mind. I'm glad I don't live in Santa Clara County.

If the decision reflects the wishes of the majority, then it's the right decision. If it doesn't, it's wrong.

I agree that there needs to be more attention/thought to the idea of proper diet. However, we can't keep trying to legislate common sense. And, that's what it comes down to. If we're going to spend money on something like this, why not spend it on properly educating people? To demand corporate responsibility is fine. But, in the end, it's personal responsibility that matters the most when it comes to eating habits.

If the kids ate just the burgers without the fries and bun their cholesterol would be in the normal range and they would lose weight. However, I doubt if any that follow the main street media, the vegan crowd or their politically correct, clapping, trained seal followers have any idea what I am talking about? Sorry for the inconvenience flat-earthers. They should have banned the idiots on the town council before the happy meals!

That one's a myth. Besides the link, you can't heat a liquid and have it become solid. If it arrived as a powder, as some others say, you'd have to *sinter* it at somewhere above 1000 degrees Celsius and at high pressure to press it into a solid form. I think, with that apparatus in the restaurant, the beef sandwich would cost a bit more!

That being said, I totally agree with you about parents being parents and being concerned about well-being of their children rather than being your friend. Lots of things figure into childhood obesity, with fast-food being one of them. Children getting all their entertainment from a computer or a television figures in to a high degree as well.

I'm with Babbles AND Kis and Nemesis on this.

It's no secret that parents should be more responsible when it comes to teaching their children about a proper diet and whatnot, but being as how many seem too lazy/stupid enough to educate themselves on the subject, let alone pass that information down to their kids, at least the city is doing something about it FOR them.

And for those against it, like the clearly overweight person who speaks up first in the video, buy your kid the meal, keep the stupid toy and throw the food away. Teach 'em to do it on their own. Every Happy Meal toy in the world isn't worth being made fun of in school, having affect your self-esteem, dating life, and perhaps most importantly, your health.

Morph, it's not a myth.

Two former coworkers worked for Arby's at two different times within ten years of each other; they both said it comes as a liquid, almost gelatinous in plastic. They put it in a special machine and it becomes roast beef. It's not just a rumor and I wish it was a lie....really I do.

Now maybe it's not an actual liquid, but it ain't roast beef as we know it to be.

My brother works at Arby's. The belief that it comes as a liquid, gel, whatever, is a myth. It's possible because of the way it's packaged, it could look like that, but it's not. It's a solid, it's beef. Maybe not high-quality beef, not 100% roast beef, but it's beef.

I was just reading about this on another site. Seems that the critics of good ol' Mc D's are pissed that they didn't do enough to curb childhood obesity.

Since when is it a fast food chain's responsibility to raise a kid? I had Happy Meals as a kid but they were rare........a once in a blue moon treat. My parents didn't rely on McDonalds (or Burger King, Wendy's, etc.) to feed us. To blame childhood obesity on a restaurant is a bit ridiculous. Eating habits should start when kids are younger. My sister and I ate cut up fruit and veggies as snacks when we were kids and were perfectly happy about that. Yes we still had sweets and candy as all kids do but we didn't go overboard with it.

Even now I'll give in to a Big Mac craving. And if the scale goes up a few pounds, I'm certainly not blaming McDonald's for that. That would be my fault for making the decision to eat like that (and damn it, now I want one). If I had a kid and if he/she were to be overweight, I'd blame myself just as much as it would be my job to make sure that they were eating healthy and getting enough exercise.

And I'll tell you one thing, the moment they would start having a fit because mommy wouldn't feed them a Happy Meal, it would be a long time before they'd be eating one again. As the one guy said in the article that I was reading:

Donald Gage, a local official who opposed the measure, said parents should be responsible for their children. “If you can’t control a 3-year-old child for a toy, God save you when they get to be teenagers,” he said.

*chants* Let the toys stay! 😛

Yeah, this kind of shit gets me worked up. We live in a society that continues to blame everyone/everything else for whatever problems they have in their lives - like people suing McDonald's for having hot coffee that THEY spilled on themselves. There are a shitload of stupid lawsuits like that one.

Take responsibility for the decisions that you make. It's not hard.

Where in the hell is my Big Mac...................

This is the kind of crap that I shake my head at. Banning happy meals, discontinuing the super size option is not going to change anything.

It's not like the kids have the money to go and buy the food themselves. That's why parents should take more of an effort to balance their kid's diet and not go to a fast food establishment every damn day. You would not believe the numerous times I see people have shopping carts littered with loads of sugary processed crap..

It doesn't matter how much fat you cut out of your diet if you still don't get off your fat ass and exercise -- that goes for both adults and kids...

That being said, if some California town thinks this is the right move, more power to them. The locals can vote out the legislators next election if they feel this is wrong.

Thanks for the clarification; it's been awhile since either of my former coworkers worked at Arbys. Maybe they have made improvements since. I'm still not eating the stuff; if it don't look like roast beef, then to me, it isn't.

Off topic,but................

All this talk of Arby's reminds me off a Simpons episode. The one where the kids got stranded on the island. One of them says I'm so hungry,I could eat at Arby's

The others were like, ohhhhhh That is hungry.

Of course, the parents could just say no. But that might require some effort, like preparing a healthy meal at home. I was told no, we can't do that or go there many times growing up, and I don't think it traumatized me for life.

It seems to me that a big part of the problem today is many parents are more concerned with being their kids friend rather then being a parent. Not saying you can't do both necessarily, but a balance has to be struck somewhere. I have no hard evidence to back this up, just going on what I have seen over the last twenty years or so.
