Today is the day that we remember the men and women who gave of themselves unselfishly to serve in our armed forces. It doesn't matter if it was during war time or not. They served YOU and me to help ensure our Freedom.

My Dad was in the Navy along with one of my uncles during WWII. Two other uncles were in the Marines and three others were in the Army. I take a moment during Veteran's day to call those who are still with us to thank them for serving. It means so much to them for us to remember the hard times they had serving for us. Of course, they like to remember the partying they did but they had rougher times than you and I can ever imagine.

Please take a moment today to thank a Veteran! They served for us!

THANK YOU VETERANS!

THANK YOU DANIMAL

You're welcome...Thank you 🙂

Special thanks to Steve Areenactor. He's over there right now, in the thick of things. He gave up the comforts of home to go out and help those who were wounded in combat. This is indeed a man of great character.

We think of so many different things when we think of veterans.

In World War II, they saved the world from the greatest villian ever known, stopping the march of destruction from travelling around the globe.

Years later, they were sent into a war in Korea under the most horrible of conditions...not as a conquering force, but as a wall to stop what still continues today, although in a more political sense thanks to what they accomplished.

Then, in Vietnam, they were sent into something that caused as much damage at home in America as it did over there. Many of them were villified, although orders were seldom questioned.

There have been many skirmishes and confrontations that they were there for (Grenada, Haiti, Somalia and a slew of others) before the war that faces us now. In Afghanistan they hunt for the antithesis of human decency after rooting out a fanatic government that stole people's very lives. And now, in Iraq, they fight unquestioningly even in the face of many questions at home.

However, let us not forget the things that our veterans do for us that don't involve war...

Disaster relief (which I experienced first-hand during our infamous '98 Ice Storm), deep-sea rescues, community involvement, homeland security, research...I could go on and on.

So, today we give them a special day. One day.

Seems to me, that's the bargain of a lifetime.

My pop was in the Navy and fought in the Korean. My first love and high school sweetheart (who trained police dogs) died while serving. And my last boyfriend was stationed in Seoul (sp?)

I bitched at my boss all day, because for us it WASN'T a holiday. I called our company unAmerican~we were the only ones in building who had to work!

Thanx Dan, Steve, Flatfoot, Knox and anyone else I missed! 😛

XOXO

Thank you QB and everyone else. I may not have set the world on fire when I was in the Navy, but it's nice to know that my efforts were appreciated, even though I didn't go to war. Thanks to you all!
