Harry Potter is one of the most successful contemporary literature characters. Originally the books were designed for the age group 10-15 years, but meanwhile they enjoy a growing appreciation by many grown-ups who have kept their fantasy young. All four Harry Potter books are in New York Times' Top 50 Bestseller List, and Warner Brothers is making a bundle of the movie 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone'.
Obviously the author J.K. Rowling is fond of tickling, as there is some of it involved in all the books. Examples: In 'The Prisoner of Azkaban', Harry Potter has to write an essay about 'Witch-Burning in the Fourteenth Century was Completely Pointless - discuss', and in one of his research sources, he finds:
'… The witch or wizard would perform a basic Flame-Freezing Charm and then pretend to shriek with pain while enjoying a gentle, tickling sensation. Indeed, Wendelin the Weird enjoyed being burnt so much that she allowed herself to be caught no fewer than forty-seven times in various disguises.'
In a scene from 'The Chamber of Secrets', Potter has a wizard duel with his archfiend Malfoy: 'Harry pointed his wand straight at Malfoy and shouted, "Rictusempra!" …as Malfoy sank to his knees. Harry had hit him with a Tickling Charm, and he could barely move for laughing.'
The fascinating idea is not the scene itself, but the fantasy what we could do with this Tickling Charm in our real world. Imagine pointing your wand (hidden in your sleeve) at an interesting and innocent victim during a subway ride, or tickling some sexy secretary, or any beach beauty while remaining completely anonymous. I actually pointed my umbrella at a cute girl in the subway one day, muttering 'Rictusempra' under my breath, but obviously my old umbrella has no magic quality at all… 😀
What would you do with such a Tickling Charm?
