Has Anyone Here Had Pleurisy?

If so, how long did it take to get rid of it?

I get in on a bi monthly basis. It can be quite painful and annoying. I treat it with high doses of Steroids that are pumped directly into my lungs, which zap it pretty quick, but that's a fairly invasive procedure. There are several good antibiotics that will help.

Some cases of pleurisy clear up by themselves, but it's more likely that your lung problems will get worse without treatment. Possible problems include pneumonia or fluid build-up in the lining of the lungs. Some problems can cause damage to the lungs and affect your ability to breathe.

One thing that my sister-in-law has used on my nephew is to put a few drops of sage oil into a steaming pot of water. As he inhales the vapors, it helps to ease some of the symptoms. (It's good for all respiratory ailments and can be found in most health food stores.) But, as yaqi said, you want to be sure to get proper medical attention for it. It can be dangerous if left untreated.

I know you hate this but you HAVE to see a doctor for this Mister! Get that damn rotator cuff checked while you're at it~(almost a) doctor's orders! 😛

I Have Sort Of..

Last week, on Monday night I was at work. I was just getting ready to start when all of a sudden it felt like I got stabbed from the right side in the lower rib cage. I felt it for about 2 seconds. I blinked and the guy I was talking to asked if I was ok. I said yeah, we started talking again and 5 seconds later I had the same feeling, only it lasted about 5 seconds. It knocked me clean off my feet and I whited out with pain. The next thing I remember is hunching over in a chair, with the plant nurse putting an oxygen mask over my face. Shortly thereafter I was escorted out in an ambulance.

It wasn't a heart attack, I had none of the classic symptoms. At the hospital they gave me an EKG (clear), Ultrasounds of my chest, gall bladder and kidneys (clear), and an x Ray that showed a slight inflamation on my lower right rib cage. My white blood count had doubled.

Prior to this I had no symtoms of anything, no cold, no pain (outside the rotator cuff which I'll eventually get around to getting checked out). I felt great. Since then I've been sleeping 12 to 14 hours a day (normal for me is about 5 or 6). The emergency room doctor said I had something that began with a C, bit a cardiologist my niece works for said I'm way to young to have it and I have none of the other classic symptoms. He did mention pleurisy as a possible cause.

I wanted to go back to work tonmight, I feel about 55 or 60% but they say I need a doctor to clear me. Since I don't have a doctor I have to find one in the morning.

Thanks for your replies!
