Predictable, cliche, same ol' same ol' jump cuts/scares/"spooky" music during certain shots, intentionally off-putting characters taken out of every other scary movie's scary box - everything engineered to try and elicit a desired response in the audience instead of letting something happen organically.

Just bland writing. Not bad, just bland. But hey, that's just me. A lot of people love that stuff and get scared.
