Have Any Forum Members Seen Gatsby Yet?

I went to see Gatsby with my aunt and cousin today.

I thought that Leo Dicaprio was excellent as Jay Gatsby. The movie itself, was just fair in my opinion.

I've seen the original with Robert Redford, made in 1974, a few times. We had to read the book in HS, and then our teacher showed us the movie. I thought the 1974 movie was much better than the one I saw today, but as for the acting,. I thought that both Dicaprio and Redford were both awesome.

Have any other forum members seen Gatsby? Thoughts on it?

I've only seen the Redford vehicle. I'm afraid of remakes! Kind of like with Psycho, know what I'm saying? Hitchcock nailed it. I didn't see the remake because I knew it would fall short as most remakes of classic films do. (I mean, aren't there enough original scripts floating around anymore?)

Just based on the trailers, I probably won't be seeing it. If they're any indication, this will be like Moulin Rouge; and while that was a fun movie once it got going, I'm not sure the same approach suits Gatsby.
