well drink water really fast without breathing. that should help.

I do that too and it usually works.Or you could try taking a sip of water and whilst you swallow stick your fingers in your ears and swallow the water hard-if that makes sense?

get tickled?? ...seriously maybe the lack of controlled breathing during tickling will stop the hiccups.....worth a try and if it fails so what..you got tickled!..lol

Oh man, that sounds so funny, but so unfortunate at the same time! Must be a right mess on getting the hiccups when you scratch your ear. Very odd! Just don't tell anyone you know, or they'll end up tickling your ear just to annoy you :tounge:

But apparently there are a few ways to stop hiccups. Like already stated, drink water - though sipping it is what I've heard. Though I suppose it would make more sense to neck it, because hiccups are apparently caused by air under the diaphragm (might displace the air). You can get someone to scare you - that's meant to work. Err, sit with your legs up and your head down, like on a couch / sofa upside down.

I'm not sure if they work, but hope they do and that you get some relief soon!

Moondog :D

Here are some medically documented methods that work (had to look them up for some of our cancer patients that have gotten the hiccups from their treatment)

(1) Swallow a full tablespoonful of granulated sugar, whole. No drink chaser

(2) This was the only thing that worked for Dave McNally (CY Young winning pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles back in the 70's. He had them so bad he had to retire early from baseball): Sit in a chair from your dining room table. Lean your head over the back of the chair. Place salt along your lower lip. Have someone blow the salt down your throat.

They both sound strange but rather than telling you to get a prescription for Haldol or Thorazine, those are the best bets.

Hiya! :)
Actually, Amber i have the same problem when i scratch one spot on my chin - which sometimes happens when i'm getting tickled actually, most aggravating :sharp_tee
Or when i eat spicy Indian food - even more aggravating!!

But ironically Gilmour's idea works for me too. But when there is no one around i trust to tickle me i find the drinking-water or juice technique works pretty well with hiccups - I find eating fave foods helps too. ;)
Or does that just make me feel better?? :tounge:

Seriously, anything that goes in where it can disrupt the tummy's reaction i find helps. *nods nods*

Hope that helps.

Many blessings,
Chickles

I get hiccups often when I'm drinking, which is just about every night. ^.^

My method, which works every single time, is to drink twelve gulps of water in a row, no breathing, no breaks. After drinking breathe deeply for four or five breaths. It works for drunk hiccups, anyway. ^.^

That's the cure for the bad blood right there!

Somewhere I heard that breathing into a paper bag for a few minutes helps stop hiccups by raising the CO2 level in the blood, but I have not tried it myself.

What I've found that works for me is to drink a glass of water from the wrong side of the glass. Seriously. You're concentrating so hard on that, that you actually forget to hiccup.

Also, even if it doesn't work, you give everyone nearby a good show as you end up bent right over with your head between your legs, trying to empty the glass. :D

They haven't steered me wrong yet.

Hiya Umojar :flower:
So how do you take your leeches? do marrinate them first or just bake them in with your rice?? :p

Many blessings,

If someone else has hiccups hold out a $20 bill and tell them you'll give it to them if they can hiccup again.
apparebntly it shocks the system enough to get them to stop.

of course if it doesnt work youre out $20...

This actually works.

Another way to do it is to control the diaphram- drink water thru a terry cloth or paper towel, exhale thru a straw for 30 seconds, or breath in deep then "swallow" more air- gulp air into your mouth and pull it into your lungs to maximize their expansion- breath FROM THE STOMACHE AND DO NOT LET YOUR SHOLDERS RISE.

This stretches the diaphram and helps to alieviate hiccups :D (btw, yes, I'm a singer)
