I know there's no way we'll ever see Tim Zahn's legendary Thrawn Trilogy of Star Wars novels made into films, but I wonder if anyone has suggestions regarding a dream cast for the books. Here's my thoughts for the new characters:

Grand Admiral Thrawn: Three possibilties here, and I can't quite decide.
1.) Sir Anthony Hopkins. He'd bring the cool, calculating cunning of Hannibal Lecter to the role.
2.) Patrick MacGoohan. Check out his performance as King Edward Longshanks in Braveheart and picture him blue.
3.) Sam Niell. The cold-blooded way in which he describes the Raptors' hunting patterns to the whiney kid the first Jurassic Park gets him an audition in my book.

Captain Pellaeon: David Burke or Edward Hardwicke. Both of these men played Dr. Watson to Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes, and the Holmes/Watson relationship is eerily similar to the Thrawn/Pellaeon team.

Mara Jade: This one seems to have been cast already now, as a model named Shannon Baksa has been posing for the character on game cards and novel covers. Although I've never heard her speak, I suspect the Virginia-born Ms. Baksa has a southern accent, which would be weird to hear in Star Wars. I always imagined Dana Delaney's voice reading Mara's lines.

Talon Karrde: Gene Hackman. Something about Karrde's attempts to play the New Republic and the Empire against one another so that he comes out in one piece reminded me of the chutzpah displayed by Hackman's Lex Luthor in Superman II as he tried to cut deals with General Zod.

Joruus C'Baoth: Christopher Lee. I thought Lee would be awesome as a Dark Jedi back when I read the books almost a decade ago, and it looks like Attack of the Clones will prove me right.

Councilor Borsk Fey'Lya: Prior to his death, I always pictured Roddy MacDowall in his Planet of the Apes make-up.

Senator Garm Bel Iblis: Sean Connery. 'Nuff said.

Niles Ferrier: Ron Perlman. He's big, loud, and plays a great jackhole.

I'd be interested to hear alternate selections.

Pretty good selection there, Mad. I agree with most of them. I think Tim Roth would be cool as Thrawn, as he's becoming the premiere evil character actor of our time. He may not cut it physically, though...but movie magic can get beyond that. Check out his cooly evil performances in "Rob Roy", "Planet of the apes" and "Reservoir dogs" to name a few.

Shannon Baksa is a doll, but prior to her photo sets, I always pictured Angie Everhart in Mara's role. Not that she's a great actress, but when I read novels with Mara in them, I always pictured her, don't know why. Then again...why not Priscilla James? Tall, redhead, powerful, wry sense of humor...what the hell?🙄

Christopher Lee as Joruus is a dead-on choice, as I pictured him myself when I first read the books all those years ago.

And for some reason, I always pictured Eric Stoltz as Talon Karrde. Maybe it's just me.

Neat thread.😎
