Stumbled across this on Wikipedia and thought it was interesting...

"Tickling fetishism is a paraphilia in which participants derive sexual stimulation from tickling, or being tickled by, another person. Erotic tickling may involve the physical restraint of a submissive by a dominant. Although some consider it a BDSM activity, tickling is not fully recognised by the community and is relatively unknown in the mainstream.

In dominance and submission scenarios, sexual partners may agree upon a safeword to signal that the tickling should stop.

Different individuals may find tickling of virtually any region of the body to be pleasurable, and this fetish can also involve excitement just from watching others being tickled. Popular tickle spots include the bare feet, armpits, thighs, and stomach.

Most adults are known to enjoy tickling, either participating or watching. It can play a part in courting rituals, especially among younger people, and can therefore be considered part of foreplay for many partners in the term's broadest sense. However, people who claim to have a tickling fetish are likely to enjoy this activity to the exclusion of other pre-sex activities. For some, the focus is entirely on the tickling, with full intercourse less important or not included at all. People whose sexuality is based almost solely on tickling can be said to have a tickling fixation. This fixation may also exist outside of sexual contexts. The amount of people who possess this fetish in its fullest sense is unknown, but since the advent of the internet there has been a growing online community with the popular Tickling Media Forum having over 48,000 members as of March 2007."

Shit, I guess we're doing something right, eh? :triangle:

I'm no betting man (Not even much of a man, really. 😛) but what are the odds it was one of our fellow TMFers who inserted that little gem? 😀

That's freakin' awesome! I wonder if it includes a link to us? Neato! Great find, Dave!

We are growing as a fetish!

Thats wonderful and it also evidence how much the tickling fetish has grown, or spread, thants to TMF and the Internet.

I didn't add that entry to Wikipedia, but I did edit/rewrite a few parts of it a while back for accuracy, clarity, punctuation and grammar. Nice to see that it's still there. 🙂

Hey, TMF is the friggin' bomb! It's about time someone noticed right? :jester:

Dave, you ought to update that entry for them when we reach 50,000 members, which will be soon. 😀

The TMF has been mentioned in that post for a long, long time. It keeps getting updated, probably by a sly moderator or other member who's just keeping quiet.

Yay!

YAY! We are mentioned. The TMF should be mentioned for all its done for the tickling community. Give the TMF its "props" . :devil2: :smilestar :veryhappy :cool2: 🙂

That is a nice find Dave! Thanks for sharing with us. It's nice to know TMF is mentioned on Wikipedia.

:xpulcy: :whip:

Is it? Maybe I missed something.

Still sounds like a pejorative to me. Paraphilia? Guilt by association doesn't take much. Is having TMF so closely associated with paraphilia a good thing? I doubt it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraphilia

I hope TMF gets much bigger and this fetish is more widely known.

Well, good or bad, the association is a fair one. Tickling is a paraphilia to many people on this site.

The Wikipedia article did state, "Paraphilia is also used to imply non-mainstream sexual practices without necessarily implying dysfunction or deviance." I think that's quite reasonable, and a very good qualifier to put out there.

Hey, we even made their list! Apparently, "acarophilia" is sexual pleasure from being tickled. 😀

What about the people who find that they really, really, really like tickling, and go to wikipedia to look it up? Just a thought

No. Those people who really, really, REALLY like tickling will type "tickling" or "tickling fetish" into their search engines just like 99.9 percent of the members of this forum. Myself included.

I can only see but a handful of people who actually use wikipedia to explore their fetish.

True enough, that's one definition. It's the clinical one I worry about

From the same article

Clinical literature discusses eight major paraphilias individually.[1] According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the activity must be the sole means of sexual gratification for a period of six (6) months, and either cause "clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning" or involve a violation of consent to be diagnosed as a paraphilia.[2]

I don't know why we can't use more neutral terms like interest or preference instead "fetish" or "paraphilia". I guess to me we are doing ourselves a great disservice and possibly alienating new members who might share our interest.

I found TMF using wikipedia. I didn't even know it was a fetish until I looked up tickling on Wiki. I only know what it did to me.

So yeah... I really love the fact that link is there!
