Try using a different player, such as Videolan.
Also, installing updated video codecs, such as K-Lite, helps a lot with Divx and Xvid flicks.

I got that when Internet was a safer place...
Now they started squatting domains with rather nasty stuff. Anything that generates traffic, gets squatted.

I would suggest Firefox with NoScript extension, to keep some of the casual virii and dialers out.
They make for a safer web experience.
