I find both groups annoying in the extreme.

I like eating meat, vegetarianism ain't for me, and animals ARE lower life forms than humans. I also prefer to bathe. That said, I enjoy the music and the drugs.

Metal is just not easy to listen to. It's harsh and loud and you're lucky if you can hear the lyrics, if you can call them that. Metalheads are too quick to get into an argument over what is true metal, and I could really give a shit. Not fond of music snobs. Also, I'm just not that angry of a person to be able to listen to such music on a regular basis.

That said, I like AC/DC, if they qualify.

And yes, it is working class music mostly, I'm astonished to see the amount of people whose IQ is lower than the boots they're wearing, but they're always very friendly.

As for me, I don't give a flying fuck about lyrics. It's just that you can't praise Jesus when you've got someone absuing his guitar with alot of distortion, like with white metal. But apart from that it really doesn't matter in my opinion.

Hell for some hardcore metal bands that the fans are skanking and dancing in the crowds

Other bands you have walls of death in the crowd

But its stereotyping like that which leads people to bad assumptions like "All slayer fans are Nazi's"

Hell, tell me the violence of Dio unless slaying dragons and evil women is angry.

As for upbeat, i get a sense of pride and power when i hear manowar.

The majority isn't, but there is actually a subgenre called melodic powermetal, often labeled "happymetal".
Check out bands such as (newer) Helloween, Freedom Call, Gamma Ray, Heaven's Gate, Heavenly and Phoenix Rising.

Well, I'm not calling anyone a nazi or violent, let's not jump the gun here. I don't agree with people that say that metal influences young people to shoot up their school or torture small animals, and I'm sure people feel all kinds of euphoria when they go to a metal show. I just think that the majority of metal (I'm not getting into any music snob arguments over subgenres) is angry music, hell so is a majority of punk (which I can't listen to anymore either).

Truth is, I'm not an angsty teenager, I don't have many reasons to be angry, I don't feel injustice on any kind of regular basis, and I just don't enjoy the sound of most metal in general, and thus cannot relate to the music or lyrics.

Haha, I´m sorry, it was wrong. I´m a Black Metal guy, I guess it´s because of that. 😀
And I love Thrash and Gothic Metal, which is about Misanthropy, Melancholy etc.

The only genres I can´t stand are Tech-Death Metal, Nu Metal(Nu Metal=No Metal) and White Metal. Bah!
And I´m not that much into Doom Metal.
