EgyptAir Flight 990

You may or may not remember the crash of EgyptAir 990 back in 1999. That and the sinking of The Kursk were the two disasters I remember capturing the public's attention that year... I'd once printed up the NTSB's complete transcript of the Cockpit Voice Recorder data to try and get a better idea of what happened.

The ultimate cause of the crash remains something of a mystery, but there's evidence to suggest that the Relief First Officer (Co-Pilot) was possibly suicidal. This theory was opposed by Egyptian officials apparently because of a deep cultural aversion to suicide, and they preferred that plane malfunction errors be considered.

This is just the end of the transcript, though in this one, the voices are left unidentified. But it's the Co-Pilot of the Relief Crew who keeps repeating "I rely on God", and the Pilot in Command of the Departure Crew who's asking the Co-Pilot to pull up with him at the end:

Here's a bit of random ass history for yaz.

You guys know why army war tanks are called tanks??

WELL...

Back in WW1, when tanks were first being introduced, the Americans didn't want enemy intelligence picking up on the fact that the Americans had these big fuck off weapons that they were planning to use. So, the Americans used vehciles to carry these tanks over country borders and told everybody and the enemy that they were carrying water tanks.

The Voynich Manuscript is a bizarre book some 240 pages long, possibly dating to the 1200s A.D. It is rife with illustration of vegetation, astronomical/zodiacal figures and naked women cavorting in "pools or tubs connected by an elaborate network of pipes, some of them clearly shaped like body organs". Weird as that is, the rest of it doesn't seem to make any sense either...

It's written in a language that no one's able to identify or decipher, it adds unknown zodiacal figures to what are traditionally known, "none of the plants depicted are unambiguously identifiable", and for all we know, the pages could be in the wrong order.

Some have considered the possibility that it was a hoax of some sort, but something so elaborate and complex seems unlikely to be so easily chalked up.
